:what:

Dude's talking about the Spice Girls, Nine Inch Nails, Pamela Anderson and stupid shyt like that with a goofy sing-song chorus on some Bloodhound Gang shyt (also Interscope, what a coincidence :jbhmm:).

How old are you, breh? Because "My Name Is" was straight up pop when it came out. Cutesy, jokey suburban pop-rap.

Y'all acting like Em came out with It Aint Hard To Tell or some shyt like that. Dude was a pop rapper from jump. The sound of pop always changes because pop vultures whatever's the real shyt at any given moment. But we know pop when we hear it - at least I do.

My Name is doesn't sound as much poppy as Drake's music, don't lie to yourself man. then Guilty Conscience came out which was a pure rap song with Dr. Dre, was that a pop song?

The song is pretty poppy man. Don't lie. Yeah he's rhyming better than 99.99% of pop rappers are but the beat and hook is pretty poppy.

i wouldn't call it "pop" cause it isn't as soft as the music right now, he's talking about some weird shyt but it's far from pop music. it's more mainstream yes, but not pop. now what Drake has just released is what you call pure crossover music. that is far from "hip hop".

I have no problem with Em's skills he's just not who should be the face of the culture in 15-20 years.

And Drake should be seen as pop rap perfected. Or maybe better put, the nail in the coffin of rap going full blown pop. Meaning mainstream media now completely controls the narrative, the mainstream media played no part in Nas and Jay but look what it did with Drake and Meek.

if we're talking about white rappers i think Em should be discussed as one of the best. as the face of hip hop i don't think he'll be qualified cause you got guys like Jay Z & Nas who should be mentioned.

but according to The Coli... Drake fell off & people ain't feeling him like that anymore... :skip:

you shouldn't let sales dictate anything, all that means is that people are willing to go out and buy his music. the quality of Drake's new album isn't that great if we're being realistic.

:russell: I already told you that pop changes over time. What's pop in 1999 is not gonna sound like what's pop in 2016, but conveniently ignore this because you want to give Em the realness card.

and bringing up Guilty Conscience is beside the point. But since you want to go there, Guilty Conscience is like Drake's 0 to 100 or 10 Bands. A straight up rap record.

Just because you're a pop rapper doesn't mean you can't make straight up rap records.

i wouldn't call it "pop" cause it isn't as soft as the music right now, he's talking about some weird shyt but it's far from pop music. it's more mainstream yes, but not pop. now what Drake has just released is what you call pure crossover music. that is far from "hip hop".

breh, how old are you? This convo is pointless if you were a toddler in '99.

I was in high school in '99. I knew what pop music sounded like because most people around me were into pop. "My Name Is" was aimed that them.

end of story
