NY brehs, how'd you choose what teams to root for?

I picked the Yankees because of proximity to the stadium (4) train 125th street is my station it's only 3 stops I can see Yankee Stadium from my window.

Don't ever take the (7) train from Flushing to Grand Central just to get uptown after a Mets loss, train only goes local and that makes the trip the most depressing experience ever.

Giants all because of LT 1986

Rangers because of the video game Blades Of Steel

Knicks I think I was just a kid picked the home team by default but seeing people be a Knicks fans one minute then dikk ride Jordan,Kobe,LeBron the next made me a die hard. When Jordan retired the first time all bandwagon Bulls fans in NY became Knicks fans overnight in 94.

I will never root for the Mets, Jets, Knicks, or Islanders. There might be series where I don't like the other team either so I don't care who wins. But I'll never openly root for one of those teams.

I wouldn't root for the Knicks, Mets or jets either. But that's more rivalry based tho.

Jets: Lived in a Giants household. This was my way of separating myself from my kinfolk. Til This day whenever Jets play the Giants its a fukking madhouse for the weekend (Once every 4 years or so, plus the annual snoopybowl), shyt talking and antagonizing.

Knicks: Grew up in a Knicks house, but there also wasn't any other team in NYC to root for so I stuck with them. Also loved so many of those players growing up, Starks, Houston, Johnson, Ewing... Hated Jordan for what he would always do to us.

Yankees: Admittedly don't watch much baseball, but my older cousin used to take me to Yankees games so I was a fan by default, plus they were winners. I root for the Jets and the Knicks, gotta have a team that wins, right?

The first baseball game I went to as a yout, Mattingly pulled one into the upper deck....needless to say I became an instant Yankees fan. Knicks are the home bball team so that was an easy choice. Even easier when you factor in Ewing being Jamaican and my fam is as well. I used to root for both football teams but decided to bang exclusively with the Jets in high school. I consider the Rangers the home team so that was an easy choice.

I am the same way, I always go for NY > All in sports no matter what.

Jets > Giants for me though, but I don't care as long as either wins tbh

I grew up in Corona Queens, so I was going to Mets games as far back as 88 with my neighbors, friends, all the time. Baseball was actually my favorite sport when I was young till I started playing basketball in the park and it took over my sports life.

Football wise I was actually a Bills fan and a Giants fan. I never fukked with the Jets, and the Bills were just embarrassing...I eventually just dropped them and kept it G-Men.

Knicks is self-explanatory....fukk I look like rooting for another cities basketball team all them MJ dikk riders back in the day made me root for the Knicks even harder.

Geography for the most part. I grew up in the LoHud Valley. My Dad took me to whoever was closest and the rest is history.

I started a Mets fan in 1986. Darryl Strawberry was my idol. He gets traded to LA and I stopped caring about Baseball altogether until the mid to late 90's when I started rooting for the Yankees. Low and behold, Straw & Doctor K BOTH re energize their careers in pinstripes.



I started as a Chicago Bears fan because the first superbowl I ever saw was '86. Plus they were rappin' and shyt. I don't really keep up with them anymore and trend towards the Giants now. Briefly was into the Jets when they had Curtis Martin, Chrebett & Pennington.


Knicks fan all day. Enjoy the Clippers now that I'm in LA. fukk the lakers.

Giants - My earliest sports fan memories were of watching the 1990 season with my dad and brother
Knicks - They were THE local NBA team even in Jersey. No one gave a fukk about the Nets (their tickets were mad cheap though)
