It's social media and this new culture of self-obsession and dopamine craving that is leading more and more people to feel isolated and frustrated. People see what others are doing and feel their life sucks and that they are inadequate. This isn't like years ago when you could leave school or work and it would end for the day at least. It's 24-7, non-stop evaluation of your self-worth. At some point society is going to have to come to grips with the fact that social media is straight up poison. I support gun control in the interim, but what's stopping some disturbed individual from renting an enterprise or u-haul and plowing kids down after school lets out instead of just shooting them? We already see that in other parts of the world where guns aren't easy access like they are here. It's seriously time to start addressing the root of the problem. Unfortunately though I think it's too late.
