London and New York are similar his question is valid if you live in the opposite side of london as someone else with no car you could be in a long distance relationship. Throw in careers etc and it could make the logistics a nightmare

Right. I can live in Clinton Hill, but if you meet someone and she lives in Brighton Beach, that's easily a $50 cab ride in one direction. The train ride is like going from Brooklyn to Harlem, if not longer. Having a whip is very advantageous in this city despite the push for public transportation.

Jersey to Manhattan is far. If you don't drive, you're at the mercy of NJ Transit or the PATH train. If you're from Jersey and you're talking to a woman from Manhattan, if you want to her to come over I legitimately think it's fair to pay for her Uber. Between the trains and if she has to take the bus, it could be hours before she gets to your door. Jersey isn't accessible like NYC is. I don't date women from Jersey.
Btw this is actually a good thread for those that aren't too familiar with the NYC Metro Area.
OP, bring your car with you to the city. You will not regret it. It's going to be a hassle finding parking sometimes, but if you wake up early for alternate side, you'll be fine.

He could hop right on the Metro North and see her. MN is a bit more than your standard train ride, but it's extremely efficient. I've gone to Connecticut a ton and I can get to certain spots within an hour if not less from Grand Central. If his girl lived in East Harlem, he can take the Westchester line and literally be there in a half hour because it services less stops. I'm talking to someone who lives in Greenwich at the moment. I would be there within 45 minutes if I took the train.

yep, harlem 125th MN station goes directly thru both bronx and westchester stops all local. I may not live in the city, but ive worked in the city long enough to know what im talking about.
