The rent cap was causing rents in Berlin to skyrocket dweeb.

Did you read the article? It wasn't the cap. It was the loophole. Landlords abused temporary housing status and raised the rent on a technicality.

BTW for those that don't know this is the anti-black Jewish author of the “Abundance” plan that @🇮🇳Hasheesh made this thread to promote debating with Ta-Nehisi Coates about why it's important to defend the memory of Charlie Kirk

This is who that musty ass carpet glider @🇮🇳Hasheesh is mimicking and ideology mining in this thread :francis:this is who he wants as the new face of the do nothing democrat party

Mamdani's rise is some suspect sh1t and he's lying his ass off damn well knowing he does not have the power to do any of that from his mayor seat. Theres a board that handles that. Plus the state has to approve of it too. Sounds like a bunch of ignorant ass voters who dont even do their research believing the words of a fraud ass bullshytter. I dont trust him one bit and think theres something more sinister behind him.

True, there is a board. The Rent Guidelines Board. But he would be the person that appoints all the members.

Why have your do nothing democrats constantly failed to make NYC affordable while in power?
More bullshyt. The only way a cap hurts is if property taxes outpace the actual earned income of the person owning the building. Is that what you are arguing is happening? Because that sounds like a case to take up with the governing body regarding taxes. Otherwise, that slumlord is pocketing the money and playing pauper.

Rent control in NYC is bad, dummy

Again. READ. I’m the only one posting research and foundational data reviews and charts. This is unsustainable.

A lot of times leftist activists have blocked new housing because they think more housing only caters to the rich while IGNORING the fact that freeing up people who have more money to move into newer housing frees up older housing stock.

This is FILTERING. I keep trying to tell you.

The same people complaining about gentrification for the last 20 years fukked over everyone else.

THE LEFT got housing wrong. This is why people are trying to fix it.

The left has a LOT of NIMBYs who were overlapping with conservatives who were already were against expansion.

Building is GOOD for cities. Stop worrying about displacement, focus on GROWTH.

Basic economics would do wonders for you:

it'll be interesting to see how he does. all i know is that he better not oversee a drop in quality of life, or increase in crime. republicans will be all over that :snoop:

TRANSCRIPT

Thom: Number one, if every vote that was cast, and if every person who is registered to vote and wanted to cast a ballot were counted, then Donald Trump would not be president right now. Correct? He would have—Harris would have—gotten 3,565,000 more votes. That's a pretty exact calculation.

Greg: There you go. And she would have won both the Electoral College by 386 votes and the popular vote by well over a million. Okay, so number one.

Thom: And number two, what brought this about was not Elon Musk tinkering with voting machines in Pennsylvania. Although, frankly, in my mind, the jury's still out on that because Trump is bragging about it.

Greg: Like I said, I think he's trolling us. But what brought this about is something the Republicans have been doing since the 1960s when William Rehnquist helped organize and worked in Operation Eagle Eye. Big, burly lawyers like Rehnquist would stand outside Black, Hispanic, and Native American voting places, loudly and threateningly challenging the voting rights of people standing in line. This goes back a long way.

Thom: And you point out it goes back to Jim Crow. It goes back to the 1870s, really. So, if you could recap, let’s just go through as much as we can of the specific techniques Republicans are using in various states to suppress voters, particularly voters of color, who tend to be more Democratic voters, or students, or older people, who are more likely Democratic voters because of Social Security.

Greg: Yes, well, the big one is, according to U.S. government figures—this isn’t Greg Palast's numbers—4.776 million people were purged from the voter rolls. Overwhelmingly, these are Democratic demographics: voters of color, young people, and poor people. A third of a million voters were challenged.

This is brand new—this vigilante challenge business—bringing back the 1946 Klan Challenge Plan. For example, I can say, "Greg Palast, don’t let Thom Artman vote." You lose your vote.

2.1 million mail-in ballots were tossed out. And the chance your ballot will be tossed out is 400% higher if you’re Black than if you’re white. The chance your ballot will be rejected for a technical reason is 900% higher if you’re Black than if you’re white. These are government figures, not mine. I’m a statistician, but I use government data.

Provisional ballots? People are shunted to provisional ballots—1.2 million of them—and 43%, almost half, are rejected. The chance you’ll be shunted to a provisional ballot is 300% higher if you’re a voter of color than if you’re white. These are massive attacks on voters.

The Republicans figured this out. They went after the mail-in ballot. In Texas, during COVID, they were going to mail out 2 million ballots to voters in Houston, which has the largest Black voter population in America. The Republican attorney general said that if he hadn’t stopped the mail-in balloting in Texas, Trump would have lost Texas. That’s Texas, okay? They know what they’re doing.

This was very much a Jim Crow election with new techniques. The Brennan Center identified 30 states that passed new laws making it harder for voters of color, young people, or others to vote, register, or stay on the rolls. This is what’s happening in America, and it’s rarely covered.

NPR calculated that one in seven mail-in ballots were rejected. But they never say—and this is what I’m doing—they never say, "What is the effect of this after the election? Did these laws in 30 states, the 4.7 million voters purged, change the outcome?" The answer is overwhelmingly, unquestionably, measurably yes. That’s why I measured it.
