OOOOOOOOOH MY nikka

You just reminded me of some shyt that pissed me the fukk off last week. Talking about people being out of touch with ny verbiage. This article is the epitome of the new age: Downtown Jamaica's First Starbucks Begins Brewing Tuesday Morning

I saw this on my newsfeed and walked out my office. Calling Jamaica Ave, Downtown Jamaica, which will eventually be termed DoJa, is fukkN ABSURD.

I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it! Is this what our city is coming to?
that's not that crazy in my opinion, Downtown Jamaica refers to the area by the Jamaica Center. It's not some completely dumb shyt like calling Port Morris the Piano district.

Is it not the commercial center of Jamaica?

That's all downtown means, it's not really a neighborhood name

But that's how it starts by fracturing the neighborhood they already renamed parts of harlem and the bronx to make it more appealing to the fukking hipsters... That's how it starts.... Its been jamaica for years lets leave it that way... :stopitslime:

It's called "The Ave." Get that new shyt out of here. They need to be a part of the communities history.
the area they're referring to isn't just Jamaica Ave

and it's just a real estate term that refers to the central business district of Jamaica as opposed to the residential areas, I don't think anyone is trying to change anything in this case

Tourists

Native NYers who complain and don't take action on their gentrified, or soon to be gentrified, neighborhoods. :martin:

Native NYers that don't travel often and feel like it gives them an excuse NOT to travel the world, but somehow stay on top with the latest fashion. :pacspit: you can be around diversity and still be close minded. Plus it has gotten watered down.

Lack of blacks owning property in NYC. That's is why the majority of the homeless are black folk and why we the last to get hired for jobs. It's also the reason why gentrification hits us the hardest.

The "new blacks" and c00ns (one in the same) who think that racism doesn't exist anymore and dating other races and share their obnoxious views. :mjpls:

The NYPD and the MTA with its corrupt fares. You better off driving when it's not in rush hour.

That is my point. Why do you think all the cats in BK flip out with all of these hipster ass names for parts of ENY? Its the harbinger of things to come.

Saying you're on the ave or going to the ave refers to the general area. It doesn't specifically mean only Jamaica Avenue. How you gonna tell me about my neighborhood b? It's usually The Ave followed by where you're going, or it can specifically mean The Ave around the coliseum block.

For example:
"Yo I need to catch the train from the ave."

The train stops are not actually on the Jamaica ave. The last two stops are parsons or hillside. You see how that works?
