Yes it does make sense, otherwise some states would never raise it (which must be done to track inflation). Most states choose to institute a higher minimum wage which is reflective of their respective economies....the federal government just sets the bare minimum. I don't see why this is so hard for some to understand.

What if it were required by the States to have a minimum wage that coincides with it's cost of living?

And I didn't say I didn't understand it. I'm just saying some "reform" may be in order for this particular subjects. Raising it to $9 across the board is only on piece of it, imo.

Obviously that would be a much better idea, but since King Obama wants to mollify the masses with slick talk, he'll make grand pronouncements like "EVERY ONE GETS A FREE TURKEY ON THANKSGIVING!" And the Obamabots will squirt in the fukking undies...:scusthov:

Obama simply doesn't respect the intelligence of the nation! And I thought Bush was bad with his Medicare Drug payment plan garbage.

Everybody can't be a CEO like coli members:aicmon:

Prices are going to go up anyway

2 largest employers in this country are Walmart and the USPS.

Also, how do you define small business? The same business that are also complaining about providing their employees healthcare:aicmon:

Show me proof where prices follow wages?

When minimum wage went from 5 something to 7 something did prices increase?

Same dumb republican sensationalism?:aicmon:

I don't see you complaining when CEOs get more pay and benefits? Does does should increase prices much more than Min. Wage increase
USPS? :heh:
How many billions of dollars do they lose a year because of pensions etc??

Like I said before...people get paid what they are worth. CEOs get paid that money because if they leave a companies competitors will have no problem paying them that. If the greeter at Walmart gets fired nobody will notice because anyone can do that job :snooze:

And Walmart makes their money on volume. Their margins are crazy low...thats why they are able to throw small businesses in the bushes. And that small business that was sticking around even though Walmart was in town? oh yea its a wrap for them now because they cant afford that $2 bump.

Did anyone peep this...

@ $7.50 hr x 40 x 52 weeks = $15,600

@ $9.00 hr x 40 x 52 weeks = $18,720

The poverty line is $16,000. So if these adults make over 16k, do they lose their welfare, ebt, section-8, wic, minute (obama) phones, etc, etc???

If so, is the the Govt plan to get people off welfare? That $2720, doesn't make up for everything they would lose

EDIT - Gotta be a single mom w/kids for the 16k. Single adult was 11.5k

Shut your c00n ass up. You're in here spouting off this King Obama bullshyt like an idiot. He didn't invent the federal minimum wage, nor is he the first to raise it. Stop acting like it's just folks blindly following Obama as if they opposed the previous increases, and only like this one cuz its coming from Obama.:pacspit:

Yes, they could do that, but now you're just arguing just to be different. A bare minimum for the nation does more for keeping state's rights intact. $9/hour is poverty in America (based on 40hr work week) regardless of what state you're in. The federal minimum isn't above what any state's minimum should be. How a state chooses to let their minimum wage track cost of living in their state has always been up to that state....what's your reasoning for changing it now? Has some state been failing to keep up? Has some state been unfairly hurt by the national minimum wage?

This likely varies by state, but I know that in my state you don't have to earn less than $16k to get government assistance. As far as the federal level is concerned, I have no idea where you got that $16k from....it depends on the size of your family, but for a single person, the poverty threshold is around $11k.

You know this, man. :datazz:

:wtf:

do nikkas like you live in a world where it isn't a recession outside? where almost 30 million americans are unemployed and struggling to put food on the table? where people who once made 60k a year are now relegated to making 8.00/hr? that shyt is real. i swear, you sheltered shutins need to step outside and see how nikkas are really living in this world. so those 27 million unemployed adults fukked up in life?

:ohhh:

My apologies breh, I made a very grotesque comment without even considering the harsh reality for many, in which you presented. I put my foot in my mouth without thinking (I haven't really watched or focused on the news in months because of the depressing outlook on life it constantly present...guess I lost track of all the terrible shyt that's still going on out here). Hopefully this pay increase serves it purpose without delivering some type of f'd up side effect (layoffs, spike in cost of living, etc.) that would make peoples situation worst.

I'm just taking in the discussion here. I'll admit, I'm not qualified to discuss economics. Not gonna talk out the side of my mouth. I will say that this exchange made me smile (:whoa: no homo). Positive discourse and conversation. Carry on, brehs. Maybe I'll learn some more in this thread. :ehh:
