So I’m guessing a good number of you are reading this book. Let’s discuss opinions on Obama’s recollection of his presidency.

First, Obama is a talented writer and deep thinker. I appreciate his ability to analyze and reflect on the experiences that led to the White House and his take on events as president.

what has caught my attention so far:
  1. First few chapters are a summary of his first book, Dreams from my Father.
  2. Chapter 6 - Reflections on Race was spot on.
  3. Chapter 16 Healthcare - Failed to realize a 60 vote majority was an anomaly or at least would become an anomaly in American partisan politics.
  4. Chapter 16 Beer Summit - According to internal polls, he lost more White support than anything he did in his eight years as president. Also received a lot of pushback from black staffers for holding the beer summit. Personally, I saw it as a very weak point in his presidency and I think it emboldened Republicans and invited attacks.
What say ya’ll?

I like that summary..... especially the Beer Summit. It was a low point in his presidency and yeah it did emboldened the Republicans. That officer was clearly in the wrong and he should have either denounced him or ignored the whole incident and let a staffer be the face of the official response.

If the long-legged socialist at Occidental College didn't reject him we could've had the public option now :troll:
Whenever I hear “long-legged” I think of that Harlem pastor that hated Obama’s guts, always calling him a “long-legged mack daddy” :mjlol:

edit: Pastor Manning :snoop:

Obama's interpretation of the Reverend Wright thing really highlights the fact that he is mixed raced and that he is not ADOS. You can tell that he believes in the inherent "goodness" of white people for the lack of a better word. It's almost as if he thinks racist whites could can be reasoned with.

And that's why I couldnt vote for him the second time.... he's trying to balance himself in america thinking alot of these folks AINT racist... meanwhile he called black protestors a bunch of thugs...
:snoop: dude literally trying to play both sides...

Yeah it's a great book so far and I would suggest getting the audible version. You can tell Obama is coming from an authentic place but he ultimately comes across as idealistic.

Didn’t even let the thread breath before the anti Obama crew came in. :heh:

And hilarious to overlook the bigger point of that quote - which surely wasn’t about trying to :cape: for Bush.
It's peculiar how he specifically names Rumsfeld and Cheney but doesn't mention Michelle's BFF :sas2:
