So yall want the Current South Side as the home to Obama's library?

Raise your standards

and Jimmy Dore can kick rocks. fukk that dude.

Shut the fukk up, Apu.

The Southside neighborhood Obama's current house is in (Kenwood) has million dollar mansions. Hyde Park (adjacent to Kenwood) is diverse and as safe as any neighborhood up north. Washington Park (adjacent to Hyde Park; where the library is supposed to be) isn't affluent, but most of the residents there own property and the area is 99% black. There are more black people that would be mad if he chose somewhere else to put the library, trust me.

Actually, you're both right. Harvey was the place to be back in the 60's and 70's. My aunt and uncle purchased property there back in either the 50's or 60's. It was deceptive from the outside, but their home had five levels. Their basement had a basement. And their basement's basement, had a basement. The craziest thing. Not exactly sure when it went bad but yeah by the mid-90's when the projects were being torn down, it had already started going downhill.

so serious question - all of those chicago protesters and people against this are uneducated and misguided? :jbhmm:
Neither, they're just looking out for their own best interest which is natural. If you don't own property in an area being revitalized, you're screwed. Property owners (black property owners, mind you) welcome it with open arms for the most part and for good reason.

The area will become safer, more jobs, they're probably going to build a magnet/charter school. White people ain't about to flock to Washington Park even after this thing is built. The area is still kinda grimey and will remain predominantly black.

The (soon to be) displaced renters are the ones making the most noise, but they are in the minority.

And to add to this, my family's church is the largest property owner in Washington Park whose actual ministry is to provide affordable housing to area residents. So there has already been discussions on this, and they are not raising the rents on residents, even if there is an uptick in property value. An as you suggested, the neighborhood is still a bit grimey and is a food desert so there would be no rush for outsiders to move in, over, say Woodlawn, the Highlands, or South Shore.

.

You will be surprised what white people will do. It was said about SW in D.C. and now they got that and working on taking SouthEast. Seeing more white people jogging and walking their dogs off Minnesota or Alabama ave tells alot.

Southside,Chicago
C C Hills couldn't even sustain a grocery store for years. There was a Country Market over there on 183rd and Pulaski that closed in the late 90s. They were never able to get anything to fill that space. What they did get across the street was a liquor store, payday loan store, and a dollar general.

North CC Hills serviced by Hillcrest might as well be Markham. Right along with the Walmart, across the street came a cash advance, boost mobile, liquor store and barbershop.

Go to the corner of 175th and Kedzie near Pottawottamie Hills, the shopping plaza, Ariston, and the two gas stations at each of the corners, all have LED lighting with bars across the windows that look like this....

And Pottawattomie Hills used to be nice. Ya'll came in 93 which is right about the time when folks from the city started coming out to the the south suburbs in numbers and when things started to change. So you might not have noticed it much. My mother's side came out south from Washington Park in '69 and left Olympia Fields in '89 for OPRF where home values were more stable.

And you talking about Markham. Markham was still predominantly white up until like the mid-90s.
pottawattomie hills is still nice, my god mother live right by the police station over there. Most of the homes that was foreclosed are occupied now plus they have the park district right there. It didn’t get ass in CC Hills til like 04-05, we was the only nikkas on our block until like 2001.

And markham wasn’t predominantly white up until the 90s, funniest thing I heard all day :mjlol:

That’s not CC hills right across from Walmart, that’s oak forest where the Wendy’s and liquor store is. Plus that dollar general just came maybe 6-7 years ago that shyt use to be a True Value hardware store :russ:

@String Bell Old heads have told me Harvey was like Orland/tinley back in the day cuz they had Dixie square mall and a vibrant downtown :jbhmm:

You could be right about seeing a few here and there, but they're not taking over any of those communities around the library site. Like another poster said, more upper/middle class blacks will be moving there than anybody. I don't say that wishfully thinking. I know my city and how segregated it is and will continue to be.
