WHat is crazy is the singles off of this were some of the better songs (Far From Yours is a classic video as well)! Premo did one of them and that still is dope to this day. I have the tape and it is a SOLID album, the highlights stick out more on this album I agree but Word Life was dope as well, to me more consistent all the way through if that makes sense... I agree with Feelosofer above, depends on what you look for in an album and what sound to which you like better. Jewelz is dope though, some amazing production on that album and OC is OC.

Don't get me wrong though, Word...Life is definitely a banger, and I even think lyrically is probably stronger than Jewelz. But the overall feel of the album coupled with the production, which I also rank above his debut, sets it apart for me.

Funny you mention Runaway Slave. My brother is a huge Show & A fan and that's one ofnhis favorite albums. I believe KRS-One also said that's his favorite album, or what he believes to be the best hip-hop album. Where as my go to Show & A album is Goodfellas, followed by Full Scale. I got both those over Runaway Slave. Goodfellas being my 2nd fav DITC project behind Jewelz.

I almost didn't buy Jewelz because Bahamadia on her radio show at the time was giving it a weak review mentioning it was too radio friendly, which is what alot of magazine reviews were saying too. I bought it and it never left rotation. Only track I skip is "Stronjay" and "Can't Go Wrong", and those aren't terrible songs, but they are the weak links. Everything else is top notch.

I'll never forget. Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop and Runaway Slave dropped the same day! So I ran over to The Wiz with my little money and copped both of them, and could barely listen to anything else at the time because those two were so dope. So those two have kinda always been on my favorites list. I loved Goodfellas too though. But I liked the group better when Show was still rhyming. He wasn't the most lyrical, but he just added something special to the tracks when he was on them. It was a dope feel.

Word...Life is one of my favorite albums of all-time though. Monch took the promo up to Stretch and Bobbito, Summer '94. And he was talking about how he was helping O and had done some beats on the album. He was playing the tracks and I lost my mind! That's one of those albums that I literally listen to every single track on. No skips. I remember going to school and playing it for everyone in the lunchroom, trying to promote it, lol.

I used to rock with Word…Life heavy and is such an amazing album & yet still all these years later I would go back to Jewelz before that album. Jewelz is just timeless…

Great album but always thought the production was inconsistent. OC never got the full album of classic production he deserved. He's got one of the greatest flows in history. And he never gets mentioned for his choruses, but his hooks were always dope as hell. Dude shoulda been a star.

I bumped the hell outta that Starchild album. "memory lane(getaway)" was my shyt.
