Romney easily beat Obama among so-called "independents" in 2012. Most of them are just republicans who use the label to flatter themselves as politically open-minded (many Tea Party members are registered "independents" too). That's why the Obama campaign never panicked when polls showed that he was losing them.
Studies have shown that more than 80 percent of "independents" vote the same party over and over... They're not moderates (Obama won those), that's the difference.
They're just as partisan as everyone else

This is a lazy characterization. It does not make them partisan, it makes them practical. I despise the Democratic Party and I vote Dem whenever my vote could significantly effect whether or not a Republican wins. Otherwise, I'd vote for independent candidates or not at all. This is stuff the parties say to silence dissent and the more progressive wings of their party (or right wing for Repubs). They try to make it out like you're an elitist. You are showing your with some of these old political thoughts . You said you been following this shyt since 1996 right?
