not saying it won't sell, but they definitely hurt sales of the S version by announcing it this early. if they kept their mouths shut, they would have sold even MORE S versions.

Maybe. But it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. If people are waiting to buy a box, they are still buying one and more importantly buying software.
HDR pertains to 4K. Unless your TV supports it, it's not gonna matter.
I wish I had held off on the Samsung 4K Blu-Ray player now.

You ain't wrong to think it, it really depends on the application of HDR and do you have a player and TV that supports it 100%

But they are the first ones to buy a new product. Even if that's 5 to 10 percent of potential sales lost, that's still a huge amount of money.
