Dems can't capitulate here. Since November people have been scratching their heads and calling leadership weak and spineless. A show of force right now is probably the best move they can make. Very rarely do Rethugs make concessions on their issues when they want something passed. I also find it interesting that this is the 3rd shutdown under a Trump era, and it probably won't be the last. It also seems like GOP were waiting for a shutdown to implement some more bs. Where are the very smart strategic Dems at?

Shutting down the government - or threatening to do so - almost never works. The president has the leverage and eventually the other side gives up because of the damage they're taking. We saw this for 8 years with Obama. Obama dog walked them every other year on this. I remember the last time he was walking around DC tourist areas taking a victory lap, telling tourists that various sites were open because he didn't cave lol.
I get why dems did it. Maybe Trump is uniquely unfit for the moment and caves instead. We'll see.

Trump lost his shutdown in 2019. I think we break the record, but he blinks. There isn’t anything he can do, and no one believes republicans that the democrats want to give undocumented people insurance. The republicans wasn’t focused on messaging and don’t have one to blame democrats with.
If he follows through on his threats, that just adds to the democrats demanding they reverse it before they end it.
