Except it wasn't on him to stop that drive. That's Bidunga's job.
Bidunga's only job on this play was to protect the paint because his man took himself out of the equation by staying above the erc.
It would've been poor defense if DP just ignored his side of the floor and helped on that drive, risking picking up a foul. He wasn't in proper position to help -
As you can tell by the screenshot his body is facing the sideline, because he's worried about the two St. John's players crossing over, so he's allowing himself room to make a decision on who to cover. It should not be on him to worry about those two players and then the ball-handler. That's what big men are for.
That isn't a guard's job.
This is all without mentioning the fact he had 4 blocks and made plentiful of defensive reads that forced St. John's into ugly offense, so I really don't know why y'all are so hung up on trying to point out what he did or didn't do on this play.
He displayed anything about "poor defensive awareness" in this game.
