giving thibs more tweaked rosters so he won’t attempt to troubleshoot throughout the season, once again. Dudes wanna shuffle the deck of the titantic when thibs is going to steer you into an iceberg anyway

I'd rather speak based on reality and not wishes.

Thibs isn't going anywhere based off of reports. We either go into the offseason trying to build off of this seasons mistakes and successes, with our continuity, when the East is looking open, or start anew. What do you think is realistically going to happen?

Brunson, KAT, OG and Hart are your most expensive, long term pieces. The likelihood of finding trade partners for them is nill. That's your core. Your PG, your stretch big, your 3/D and your 6th man. Now you gotta fill the holes.

Teams don't give the Knicks shyt like the Lakers. The league doesn't work to help the team. So they'll have to give something of value up to make any moves. Mitch and Deuce fit that bill. Mikal can get you something of value as an expiring from a small market team needing talent and cap space floors or a contender that he can play 3rd or 4th fiddle on.

We can't stand pat, the organization believes in Thibs and tangibly, they have every reason to - he got a perennial lottery team to the ECF in 5 years.

So you augment. You shuffle. You hope your baseline sees continued improvement, as it very literally has for the last 5 years. The results are the results, irrespective of what you think about them.

And if it doesn't, come 26/27, 2 years from now, you have real changes to consider when contracts and the makeup of the league is looking different.

The team is trending upward by the only metric that matters. Wins. Whether it's viewed as sustainable in the long term or not is relative.

All signs point to minor changes for this season given the circumstance. Start looking at available free agents, potential draft day trade partners and get used to these conversations my boy. :hubie:

That is why I think one of KAT or Brunson have to go. Most teams can hide a bad defensive PG easier than a bad defensive center but both are doable. I don’t think this team can hide both. We would need a third scorer who wasn’t a defensive liability to stagger the other two with.

Wasn't that guy supposed to be Mikal? But he shies away from physicality too much (turnaround middys instead of driving to the basket) and his defense is overrated.

Yeah I thought he would be the third scorer. OG averaged 18 and Mikal averaged 15. It’s like a field goal difference between the two. How he got his points is the most interesting part, lowkey Bridges and Brunson were hitting midranges the whole playoffs. Which is usually the shot the opposing defense gives you.

The fact of the matter is he came here to be PHX Mikal and he basically became that over the season. Mikal on his contract isn’t the problem either.

Contractually, no he isn't an issue. Unfortunately, he left his defense back in PHX. That's my gripe with him. It's part of his lack of physicality. We saw all series with him refusing to fight over screens and letting Haliban have too much space to operate. He got cooked something seriously by Haliban. And it wasn't an aberration either. Even during the regular season he would get torched by big guards/ wings. The good (defensive) performances were too few and far between.

I’m not trading anyone. Trading our little depth for Giannis just puts us back at square one with a new set of problems (what to do with Mitch, how to get shooting and still no bench). I’d consider KD for KAT straight up but that’s about it.

You’re going to have to improve this team in the margins. Time to get creative and either find a shooter that can start in place of Josh (my preference), or a big to back up Mitch and make him the starter. The number one priority for this team is put together an offensive system that can generate easy points. This team was exhausting to watch how hard it worked to score, all season. It could be as simple as just not having Hart with the starters and playing Brunson a bit more off ball but I need to see multiple actions and way less iso next season.

I’d finalize a KAT for KD before the finals start on Thursday :mjlol:

I get that Thibs isn’t a great offensive coach and everything seems to be a struggle even when we score compared to the Pacers getting wide open looks all over the floor but the defense was the bigger problem

I get that Indiana is a very good offensive team but way to many open looks for them and to give up layups and dunks continuously off makes is unacceptable

Are two best players being defensive sieves is something that’s gonna be hard to ever get over the hump with and add in the fact that Mikal was getting shredded on D it’s not good
