Where is he gonna play? What position? We dont need more stars just better everything else. Well if it gets rid of kat the. fukk trade his bytch ass. But KD is more problems.... Nova knicks might be finished after this. Divencinzo better than Hart by far and he played better with brunson than bridges. And they traded him like nothing. Josh Hart not safe. Brunson gonna be tight if they treat his mans like fodder. Divencezo happened already. Just shows they don't give a fukk
If you get KD for just KAT, I'd try and get Divo too. You may need to wait until the December deadline to do it. Resign Precious to a one year deal at $11,990,000 with the express idea that you'll trade him to Minny the second he's able to be traded. You'll probably have to throw in the Wizards protected pick too. (Someone's going to have to let me know if that's a legal workaround, because a sign and trade this summer would trigger the second apron instantly, and Precious would have to sign for at least 3 years, something Minny would no longer be interested in).
As far as KD, you're getting an equal to or slightly greater scorer than KAT at the 4, but someone who can do it on his own and can better create for others. Think a way better Julius in his ability to take the ball out of Brunson's hands while playmaking and scoring. The Thibs offense would still be uninspiring but much more effective with KD's elite iso ability. He's also surprisingly still a good defender as
@ISO pointed out a month ago when he first floated this idea. Which means you can effectively protect Brunson on defense like everyone agrees we need to. Not saying he's going to be a shut down defender, but he's not going to be someone you're going to easily attack like you attack KAT.
Now, the cons are a lot to think about. Like KAT, KD is an even bigger ticking time bomb physically. You're doing the trade with the express intention that you're going to the finals and credibly competing for a chip next June. The EAST is wide open with Indiana being the favorites right ahead of us and then Cleveland. You're praying to God your new training staff can keep him together this season but that's probably going to require some DNPs and a minutes restriction if I had to guess. This means you absolutely need to rely on your bench more which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
It also means you're going to need bigs this summer, too. You're banking on Mitch staying healthy as a starter playing at least 30 minutes a game, and you're also going to need a backup that can play up to 25 minutes a game, depending on Mitch's foul trouble on any given night. KD shouldn't be playing much 5 at his age and physicals. You're going to need a solid back up 4 too in that case.
Another con is if it doesn't work, you're pretty much fukked with no way of flipping him for something else. (to be fair, if KAT's knees explode, we're in the same boat but for at least 2 more seasons). If you let KD expire next summer, it's not money that is freed up to sign a free agent cause we'd still be an over the cap team.
Finally, the last con with KD is the vibes. You never know with dude, who's had pretty bad breakups everywhere he's been. How will he get along with Thibs and the Nova guys? To me, that's just as big a gamble as the injury risk. There also isn't much of a track record of superstars ring chasing and winning a chip on their third team. It usually goes downhill.
All in all, I'd probably do it if it's just KAT and maybe a second-rounder or two. (or three fukk it). It's an all-in move that pretty much fills every single one of the court weaknesses that were exposed this summer. And it's one I think the Suns do, with the recent news that they're lowering their asking price. I know they want picks and stuff, but KAT is still really good, and reuniting him with Booker should be incentive enough for the Suns.
You're potential rotation looks something like this:
Brunson/Duece/Kolek
Mikal/Donte/(vet min shooter: maybe Shamet?)
OG/Josh/Dadiet
KD/(vet min big: maybe Yabusele?)/PJ Tucker
Mitch/(vet min big: maybe Capela?)/Hukporti
Key is going to be lineup experimentation during the season, but there are a lot of looks this team can give that I like.
