I wouldn't equate some of the members to the organization as a whole, trust me, they work the same as most large scale member organizations do: they have social outings around the world, they network heavily, invest in each other, and make sure to put each other on when necessary. You'll find Black BigLaw partners, doctors and surgeons, tech moguls, business-people, engineers, political leaders, and a lot more among the ranks.
And when it's time to kiss whitey's ass?

So you want to be in the Boule?
I don't really care to be. Pledging into one letter organization was good enough for my lifetime, I just happen to know a few IRL, and they're quick to hook you up with something.

Basically, though it is separate from the Divine Nine (or 10 if you count Iotas :mjlol:) as you alluded to. As a Greek member, I certainly didn't get taught any info about them while pledging, so all I learned was my own research years later. However, I think most that are part of the Boule are members of other black college Greek organizations. I don't know everything about them, but people making rash generalizations about an organization they know nothing about sounds much like how people make the same assumptions and generalizations about my or other black Greek organizations.
Yeah, all of the ones I've met so far were AKAs, Alphas, or Deltas, which may partially be by coincidence (you have to be in college to pledge, and college graduates are the vast, vast majority of the Black upper-middle class), and partially be by familiarity.
The fact that they don't release a media report every time they do something is part of the reason why there seems to be this obsession with them being a wing of some "Secret Society that pledges allegiance to the Illuminati."

@Grano-Grano Whole thread is going to be trash, they're Sigma Pi Phi, a Black Greek-letter organization, with noted similarities to Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha collegiate Greek-letter organizations.
They're compromised almost entirely of upper-middle class to upper-class African-Americans who are white-collar professionals and/or entrepreneurs.
They act as a giant Black network and social organization, and have fairly illustrious alumni, Dr. MLK Jr. Thurgood Marshall, WEB Dubois, Ron Brown, etc.

Most of this misinformation is going to come from non-Greek-letter brehs, or seemingly bitter non-college graduates. Research is fairly easy, or you could go to their website, talk to a APA/AKA, check out one of the few good books, etc.

I've seen nothing but positive things from boule people. This dude runs the Atlanta chapter Richard Turnley, III | LinkedIn and his wife is president of that jack and Jill thing. I've met them both and they seem fine to me. Didn't get a hint of I'm better than u attitude :yeshrug:

Hey brother thanks for a nuanced response. I'm from a lower socioeconomic background, I can understand why brothers from the the hood look at you guys as suspect. However, I went to a PWI and I understand the pov of the Black upper class. I'm with the networking, charity, and all that. However, my concern is the lack of visibility in the struggle for our civil rights now in the 21st century. It seems the hood is rebelling, where is our upper class?

Actually working to help with laws and the system that oppresses us. As an active member of the NAACP laws and movements take time and sometimes when we do stuff that truly help black people. Hood black ppl(using your term) don't see it. I see black upper class people committing lots of hours behind the scenes doing work. Just bc there's no social media output doesn't mean things aren't being done

Part of the question is: What are they rebelling against?
The Black upper-class, would normally, as they did in the past, work legislatively, attempting to add pressure.
Its not as easy when the legal walls are almost non-existent. Police brutality? State-by-state basis with the power almost solely in the hands of reluctant, White Congresspeople.
I've known some who are out in the streets protesting with everyone else, but its changed quite a bit from the past.

The hood won't exist in the future anyways the way gentrification is going. Anyways we need that visibility because I feel this and I know alot of brother and sisters feel this, that our upper class looks at us like a burden example being Cosby's pound cake speech. Visibility and reciprocal love is needed. White supremacists want us to be divided but we have no time for this.

I mean I def understand the sentiments but as a person who attempts and promote a lot of blacks to work together. A lot of NAACP are proactive like we're trying to get rid of discriminatory laws, red lining, fighting schools becoming defunded, helping black people understand we can stop the gentrification process by promoting home ownership, and programs that are exclusively for us. Now that's just a few of the examples that take a lot of time and politics to do. :francis:

Hood black people don't acknowledge that and when something big happens like a murder of a black male it pisses a lot of ppl off that black people think people running the NAACP aren't doing anything but it's a blatant falsehood. Theyre being very reactionary when I'm spending my nights for free lookIng through legislation so our poor blacks have access to transportation and such. That's why u sometimes get a idgaf what ur saying reaction from some NAACP people bc ppl truly don't understand all we do.

We're talking about a collective of Black people across many different professions.
There are members who have spearheaded community organizations that focus on education and after-school programs for children, set up scholarships funds, worked on rebuilding and purchasing homes in poorer areas, leadership programs for children and adolescents, etc.

There are natural economic divisions, across all national lines, racial and ethnic lines, language lines, etc.
"Visibility" may be an issue, simply because most members of Sigma Pi Phi are not famous.
They may give speeches, write books and articles, donate, march, propose legislation, petition, and more, but it won't be "visible" because (for the most part) they aren't rappers, basketball players, actors/resses, or reality television stars. They're old-money, entrepreneurs, or white-collar professionals at the top of their professions.
