Reed is one of the safest players in the draft. There’s not a lot of flash to his game, but he’ll anchor the middle of a defensive line for a decade. The 310-pounder has incredible strength and handled double teams in college the way Gilbert Brown handles an all-you-can eat buffet. Nose tackle is probably Reed’s best position in a 3-4, but unlike B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion, he also has the skill set to be an effective end. And while he won’t be much of a pass rusher from either position, he’s certainly capable of pushing the pocket.

If I’m going to invest a No. 1 pick on an inside linebacker, I would want that player to be as almost as good on third down as he is on the first two downs. And that’s simply not the case with Ragland. While the thickly built 245-pounder is a force against the run – especially at the point of attack – he looks stiff and even sluggish in space. He’s a bit tight in the hips and the more ground he has to cover, the more he struggles.
