I think the gamble is Trump.

If he dies, you lost both a pawn and a strong link to his base.

If he goes out of Israeli's control and says screw you, that's a different problem.
I honestly think Trump saying screw you to Israel is out of the realm of possibility. He's always been Israel first and will continue to be Israel first even if it means the downfall of America. It's not just Trump either, but the entire American establishment that has any real power also has an Israel first allegiance. As Nancy Pelosi once implied. If the America n empire were ever to fall, The one final thing that would remain is our (the establishment's) commitment to Israel.

How far will US strikes set back Iran’s nuclear programme?

Following the US’s attacks on Iran, Trump told the world that “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated”.
Iranian officials, however. have attempted to downplay the significance of the hits.
Speaking on state TV, Hassan Abedini, the deputy political director of Iran’s state broadcaster, said the three nuclear sites had been evacuated “a while ago” and that they “didn’t suffer a major blow because the materials had already been taken out”.
Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, says it is likely Iran had taken precautionary actions ahead of the US attacks.
He said Iran’s most valuable nuclear asset is its stockpile of enriched uranium, and that “as long as they continue to have that, they still actually have very much a nuclear programme that still could be weaponised”.
Parsi added, “And I think we are going to start to hear from the Israelis in rather short order, that this was not the type of successful strike Trump has claimed, but they are going to start making the case that there needs to be a more ongoing bombing campaign against Iran.”

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Force your enemies to form like voltron, ameribrehs :francis:

Honestly, the time to directly attack the U.S. is now if you’re Russia/China/Iran. It’s unlikely we have leadership this incompetent again soon. We’re essentially Rome waiting to be squashed by Germanic barbarians at the gates, but people won’t see it until they’re scaling the gate. If I see it, I know these other countries see it too.

Latest attack on Israel was from Yemen, not Iran: Report

The semi-official Fars news agency is reporting that the missiles that set off air raid sirens in Israel in the past hour was fired from Yemen, and not Israel.
The agency said wave 21 of the Iran’s True Promise has not been carried out yet.
Earlier, the Israeli military said the missiles were launched from Iran.
We will bring you more when we have it.

Trump directed staff to announce 2-week window to conceal Iran attack plans, sources say

From CNN’s Kaitlan Collins
President Donald Trump had been leaning heavily toward taking US military action in Iran for several days when he issued a directive to his senior aides: Tell the press he would make a decision on whether to act within two weeks, as a way to obscure his true thinking.

The president had been frustrated by coverage that suggested he had made a final decision on striking Iranian nuclear sites and he thought a two-week timeline could throw off the Iranians and conceal his plans, according to several sources familiar with what happened.

Trump made the call to issue the statement Thursday as he was set to have lunch with his former adviser Steve Bannon, who had been publicly skeptical of US involvement. Shortly after, his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, walked into the White House briefing room and followed the president’s orders, signaling to the world that Trump’s mind wasn’t made up yet.

While the final call came Saturday as bombers were already in the air, those around Trump believed his mind had been largely made up for days regarding taking action in Iran. Trump had been briefed on attack plans already and was meeting with his senior national security aides in person on a daily basis, in addition to having multiple phone calls throughout the day.

I think this is short-sighted. The idea that Russia or China would launch a direct attack on the US overlooks how global power actually works. War between nuclear-armed states isn't a game of opportunity, it's an invitation for mutually assured destruction.

China also isn’t going to do shyt

All they need to do is watch the US get dragged into another meaningless war and continue investing in tech / AI and little broing countries in the South China Sea

US lawmakers continue to question legality of Trump’s strikes

We have more reaction from legislators in the US.
Senate Democratic Whip dikk Durbin has issued a statement, saying Trump violated limits on his power set forth in the US constitution by ordering the attacks on Iran.
“President Trump’s actions in bombing Iran puts the US on the brink of a wider war in the Middle East, all without constitutionally required Congressional approval,” he said.
Under the constitution, only the US Congress can declare war, although presidents can take unilateral military action in some circumstances, notably to thwart an imminent threat.
While Democrats have led the condemnation, some members of Trump’s Republican party have also criticised the attacks. They include Representative Thomas Massie, who has urged colleagues to vote on a bill that would assert any military action on Iran must be approved by Congress.
On Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to criticise Massie as a “negative force” who does not represent the Republican base.
Massie responded by saying, “[Trump] declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress”.
