There's this thing Nas and his recording engineer(s) have been doing since King’s Disease , where he’ll lay down multiple takes, and the engineer ends up stitching them together. You can clearly hear it: different volume levels, vocal inflections, even shifts in energy, like it’s a totally different take dropped into the verse. Or it might be that shyt that Lil' Wayne does. Record, stop, record, hear it back, record, stop, take it back, record.

For example, on this track, the line “And that rings loud, and reverberates” sounds spliced in. The volume and tone of his voice noticeably shift. And there are several moments like that throughout the verse. It just ends up sounding disjointed.

Y'all stans tell his team that.

I thought I'm the only one who notices this type shhit, lol. All facts, I hear it clearly every time, it's habitual at this point. All this shhit started in the last 10 or so years...where it's just clear and obvious he's punching in like crazy and they're just piecing it all together in post.

That's cool. Get your rocks off
I'm not trying to disrespect the brother. He's my favorite rapper.
I'm obviously a fan or I wouldn't have noticed, right?

So it's either true or I'm hearing something that's not there.
Nah you right, not always - but often and noticably on KD1, I felt like that was really him warming up again and then it was less on the following albums. I hear it more on the KD albums than the Magic ones, which makes sense as the KD albums were more curated and Magics were more freestyle/raw.

Cormega used to be awful with this lol, him, Talib Kweli, Chino XL - some songs are nearly unlistenable to me because of how poor the punchins were edited together. I feel like Nas team mostly gets it right, but it takes me out of the song when I hear it, for sure.

I hear what u saying. I think this is part of why I feel like he was sharper in 2012 vs now. I don't hear it much on KD3 or the Magic albums at all tho.
