Tbh I feel the same way, If the woman doesn't feel like comfortable wearing it, it's up to her. My little sister doesn't wear hijab. Compulsion would just make her more distant from the faith. While I have a lot of respect for women who wear hijab, I've always been on the fence about its necessity tbh. As far as I know the Qur'an never specified the wearing of a hijab (that is more of a traditional cultural practice), but more so about dressing modesty that entails the covering of sexual body parts (particularly breasts and butt).
As long as the woman feels comfortable wearing one, that's all good. But I hope a lot don't feel the pressure to do so because of what they've been told (although that is inevitably the case in very strict Muslim countries).
I'm from the Middle East and only a handful of women in my very large family wear one. My mother doesn't.
What do y'all make of this issue?
I bring this up in response to @50CentStan specifying he wants to marry a hijab woman. Does it have to be a woman wearing hijab?

Damn, never knew about interpretationBeing a speaker of Arabic, what I realise is that idk where this notion of 'hijab' translating as a head-covering garment came to be. It translates as 'veil' or 'conceal' depending on the context, but it would be in reference to addressing the unbelievers for example with respect to the truth/light of Allah being hidden from them or what have you.
And in terms of verses that denote covering, those are set in the context of the Qur'an's primary addressees aka 7th century Arabs, where the custom dress was the 'khimar'.
I think the key is to dress modest, and depending on interpretation and culture every woman would come up with something different, but we can all tell for the most part what modesty looks like. Just dress normal without intention of being too revealing and you should be good. That's my take on it at least, and I'm sure based on much of the females in my family, it is their opinions as well.
.
I'm worried about retaliation against innocent Muslims in the immediate aftermath after the shooting. Stay safe out here folks.![]()
