We can thank Trump and his infinite wisdom that allowed Iran to privatize the Ormuz straight. Now that we have absolute certainty that Iran can de facto close it, we'll likely never going back.

Iran has been threatening to close the Ormuz strait since the early 2010s. And even when they were under sanctions, they never did it. Whether we like it or not, we live in a new reality where they own it even though it's international waters and there's not much we can do about it.
