Comets dominated that first run against the Sting and Liberty, winning by 16 and 14 points. You’re right that single elimination makes it harder to repeat though because the following season when they switched to best 2 out of 3, the Comets wouldn’t have repeated since they lost to the Mercury in game one of the Finals. Since it was best two out of three, they won the next two games. That means no 4 championships in a row which is your whole argument.
The Liberty were the favorites to repeat, and how quickly people forget how hot they started the season hot until injuries hit. Not to mention they were missing BLH for the entire season. I’ve seen people in this thread calling Jonquel trash. I don’t think she is, but she clearly isn’t on the level of a Swoopes or Cooper (who were both on the same team). Again, you’re saying Coop and Swoopes are the two best women’s players of ALL TIME, and they played on the SAME TEAM, so that would mean they’re clearly a level above these other super teams of today, ESPECIALLY in the 8 team era in which they played when the players weren’t as good. As far as Candace and Nneka, they played in the same era as the Lynx, Phoenix, Seattle. The Competition was harder than it was in the early days.
Your only argument for Swoopes over A’ja is rings. Swoopes wasn’t the best player on the team and didn’t win Finals MVP either of those championships. Also my nikka, Swoopes wasn’t a contributor in any capacity to that first championship. She scored the same amount of points as me in the playoffs. She barely even played that season. I think she might’ve been pregnant.
