In terms of just flat out skill and just rapping I think they're even, there's been different versions of Jay over the years but there's only really been one Cole though and I think that's the main thing that sets them apart. Jay's reinvented himself a few times and while it hasn't always worked it's given him a lot of variance in content so I'll take him over Cole in that regard. Cole's never dropped a bad album IMO (4YEO is probably the closest but still not a bad album) but I think Jay has dropped a few.

All in all, I think just the longevity of Jay and him being able to exist in different eras of rap gives him the nod and the advantage, but I think Cole is just as good of a rapper bar for bar, he just doesn't have the diversity Jay has had.

No way and I'm not a big fan of Jay-Z at all, 97 Jay-Z vs 2019 J Cole would be like a squash match on WWF Superstars with Cole being the jobber of the week, I get if people don't like his content but his skills aren't in question, he loses points for all the biting though.

Cole is a fantastic emcee and has made some dope ass songs, but overall his music/beats are ass:yeshrug:

IMO, That’s what keeps him off any 25-50 GOAT list :francis:

Jay is a top 5 rapper/emcee/ songwriter

Please post a cole verse better than this and this ain't even Jay best verse. Also Cole's best album isn't even fukking with Jay's or 6th best album. This watered down era has made a lot of above average rappers seem much more than what they are. You wanna know how weak this era is, Logic is essentially this generation's Eminem. Let that sink in for a second. DaBaby is essentially doing what Ludacris was doing and Luda is 100x the lyricist as DaBaby. Thug or Uzi is this era's Lil Wayne. Migos this eras Bone Thugs. You see how the overall playing field has fallen off compared to their predecessors.
