This is what bad coaching produces.

Facts! When I seent RJ Barret ignore all of his teammates, isolation drive into traffic, damn near lose the ball, and then miss a bad shot a la Julius Randle, I knew this guy had to fukking go. It's not about wins and losses, it's about coaching fukking up your future

Then you run RJ at the point guard position instead of playing 2 point guards at the same time in positionless basketball. Everyone has to have a role. That's too complex.

What's there to be tight about? RJ Barrett hasn't played that way all year with us because he knows he hasn't earned that kind of capital yet. He's clearly been frustrated at the offensive system at times even though he's tried buying into it. The moment our young his stop believing in offensive systems and believe in selfish plays is the moment I think the coach should be held accountable

Edit: Be clear... I'm not mad at the isolation play... I'm mad that he clearly broke the offensive set to do what he did for what wasn't even a good shot. I'm mad that the head coach let him stay on the court and didn't even attempt to home him accountable (probably because he would be a hypocrite if he did). I'm mad because THAT'S the style of play we're supposed to be coaching him away from and not encouraging. But you go ahead and be tight

So you’re blaming that on Fizdale :laff:

So you’ve never seen Mario Hezonja play basketball prior to the Knicks and have no idea what his skillset/max potential consists of :ohhh:

Ahh, the memories. Kinda reminds me of another stat padding turnover machine on PF that is getting major minutes.

Small forwards are not point guards.
You do realize Mario Hezonja was compared to the likes of Toni Kukoc, Rex Chapman, and Hedo Turkoglu coming out the draft right? :what:

You do realize Mario Hezonja has been viewed as a point forward by scouts right? :what:

We have already taken a look at Mario Hezonja here on OMD, and he is an interesting international prospect from Croatia whose upside appears to be as high as a perennial All Star at best.

He is multi-positional, and, viewing clips, he at times appears like an ultra-athletic version of former Magic star Hedo Turkoglu. While initially Hezonja would come off the bench, the chance is there that he becomes a secondary playmaker in the starting lineup in time.
Hezonja has the ability to play the position of point forward Hedo Turkoglu did a few years ago. He is very unselfish and has solid court vision. He made mistakes last season that led to turnovers. But that is typical for such a young player.
Mario Hezonja has the potential to be a legitimate point forward

There are very few players in NBA history who were versatile and long enough to possess a point forward label (Grant Hill and Hedo Turkoglu were former Magic players who had these skills). While still lacking some key fundamentals, Hezonja has a chance to evolve into a player who can be a playmaker at the small forward position. He has outstanding court vision, tough-to-guard length and enough adaptability to run an offense and be a stat sheet stuffer.

He is literally playing that way because Blazers coach Terry Stotts has empowered him to do so... :comeon:
Terry Stotts Looking at Utilizing Mario Hezonja as a Playmaker, Point-forward

The Knicks media and coaching staff was supportive of Hezonja playing as a point forward :comeon:

You're blaming Fizdale for R.J. being who R.J. has been. You are blaming Fizdale for selfish tendencies displayed by R.J., ill advised isolation drives, ignoring teammates.

If you followed R.J. prior to the Knicks you'd know he suffers from hero ball syndrome which leads to tunnel vision and ignoring teammates as well as poor body language at times. You'd also know R.J. doesn't have an elite first step or handle and is very left hand dominant and relies on bullying his way to the rim much like Randle.

I like R.J. Barrett but to blame Fizdale for the weaknesses the kid has is just insane. This is scapegoating.

I'm blaming coaching for not capitalizing off his strengths and calling him out on his weakness.
