So basically Mitch is a good prospect but the team sucks?
It's kinda chicken or the egg. We probably wouldn't need to run this switch everything stuff without Randle playing such big minutes and Portis getting so much time off the bench. You trim each guy's minutes and replace them with more mobile and attentive defenders (that's basically anyone else) and you could go back to letting Mitch either try more traditional defensive approaches as in Drop or ICE based defense. Same with the rotation stuff. You could make some tweaks so that Mitch isn't surrounded by DSJ, Knox and Portis all at once. It's too much piss poor defense for Mitch to be able to cover for them and it leads to more fouls and a lot more situations where he's covering for other guys that are out of position.
Here's the million dollar question though. Was this a Fizdale thing or a demand from the Front Office? I can't say. I mentioned it earlier (on second thought that may have been a comment on Realgm), but I can't imagine that Fizdale who benched Zbo and beefed with Gasol has gotten THIS squeamish about holding Randle accountable. But we'll probably figure out if Randle's minutes were more a mandate from Pills within a couple of weeks. The interim coach can either fix this ish or keep forcing it to work.
Either way...everyone sucks, time to clean house. We probably are better off waiting till the trade deadline with Pills because there might not be enough time for a new GM/President to come in and set anything up when we're in prime position to be sellers. But unless they do something miraculous with the deadline, this team will still be bad and they ought to go too. Even blaming Fizdale entirely, he was their pick. So they either picked a bad coach or handcuffed a decent one. Both are fireable offenses when you were supposed to be focused on a long term build.
