I like Van Fleet

But paying him 22 mil is too much of a reach.

Yes he’s a plus defender, and I love that he doesn’t shy away from taking the big shot.

But his B-Ball IQ isn’t the greatest. He still struggles with the P&R and forces his shot a lot.

I rather the Knicks Draft Cole Anthony. Who’s a shoot-first PG and plays with an edge like VF.

Trades are going to be made whether it’s moving DSJ or Julius, a trade for a Veteran PG can be made. I like trading for CP3 because he increases the whole IQ of the whole team. Win or lose the young boys will learn and improve playing next to CP, especially Mitch.... VF doesn’t offer that.

I keep hearing all this hype about Next year draft. Let the young boys play and unless we can Pry somebody like Brandon Ingram or spend 10-15 on a Lauri M or Gallo. Sit tight on that cap space

Mills has been associated with every horrible team we’ve had in the last 20 years so I’m glad he’s gone:yeshrug:

True Dolan wants to make money. It’s why the Knicks can’t win, because as long as Dolan sells tickets and doesn’t have fans/media calling him a dumbass he’s good. CAA worked out a collaboration with chase bank that made dolan a shot ton of sponsorship money with MSG

CAA building out from agents

CAA Sports consulting lands Chase

it’s literally a one hand washes the other situation.

People Think The Knicks Gave JR Smith's Brother $490,000 To Appease CAA, The Agency That Dominates The Team

So I think JR Smiths brother was the straw that broke the camels back and led to the temporary separation and Phil being brought on. Mills was also someone Dolan made money with. He didn’t understand basic basketball management. That’s the main issue Dolan understands making money and not how to be a winner. He’s a rich loser.... just look at him and the nonsense he does with that money.

Anyhow I am trying to figure out the angle this time, but trust there is a angle.

Nah it was all CAA.

CAA Convinced Knicks Owner James Dolan to Trade for Andrea Bargnani
Phil Jackson Could Be Perfect Mentor for Ailing Knicks, but It Won't Be Easy

Basically Dolan hired McKinsey consultants that placed a share of the blame for the Knicks sucking on CAA. Its one of the reasons Phil was brought on. They wanted him to gut CAA, now that Phil and Mills are gone Dolan being the bytch he is went right back to CAA.

All we know is the knicks have only been heavily tied to CAA agents in Free agency (CP3) and the Draft (Ball, Haliburton, Obi, and Vassell), the majority (if not all) the FO, scouts, and coaches are CAA. Hell, even the coach search was damn near all CAA clients. One way or the other we are going to see how this goes down.

To be fair, the McKinsey thing turned out to be complete disaster in its own right.

Also, I think that second bit is ignoring a few things.
With the Draft; the Knicks have been linked to a lot more names than that; including Cole, Kira, Williams, Okoro and Maxey. Add the late first round and second rounder looks; it's not just some CAA names. I'd also point out that Obi, Hali and Vassell are all projected to go in the exact area the Knicks are drafting, Occam's Razor is that those guys all make perfect sense to look at.

The staff also just goes by Occam's Razor. Leon Rose has been the CAA guy for a long time and every president brings in familiar names and faces. So of course he brought in a bunch of CAA affiliates because that's where all of his connections in the basketball world rest. What's more important is the quality of the names and I don't think anyone could make a meaningful argument that these are bad staff names. As a matter of fact, Rose has added a number of fairly under the radar staffers who were highly touted in their local organizations. Those are the types that a CAA link becomes advantageous with.

If you just put CAA in a vacuum, then sure these look bad. But judging the moves on the merits of the hires and considerations; they all make sense and actually look pretty damned good. Thibs is the only one anyone can argue and I'd point out that he's infinitely more proven than the Hornacek or Fisher type hirings; no more familiar than the Perry hiring was; and also that there's no smoking gun coaching candidate this time around like Bud and Kerr were during the last coaching searches.

It depends.... is the dog wagging the tail or is the tail wagging the dog.

Basically are these top people who are CAA clients being brought over to support Leon running the Knicks or are these guys being brought over to get a payday and send money up the chain in CAA like the mob use to do.

I hope it’s the former but I think it’s the latter. We got to wait and see.

Why would it be anything but B? I can’t believe a guy like Leon Rose would want to tarnish his good name in this industry just to milk a couple more million out of Dolan and pile on to the train wreck this organization has been. It’s way more likely that dude took the job because he thinks he can do it well.
If Dolan hired a c level agent at CAA that we never heard of then your fears of the mob analogy would valid. Rose damn near built the basketball division at CAA.

CAA is the largest agency in basketball. They have some of the top clients in basketball. What none CAA player do you think we should target that we aren’t rumored to be going after? (Mind you, we can’t believe none of these rumors because the only thing we know so far is Rose has been tight lipped about all major decisions. The people spreading these rumors are just throwing darts at CAA clients).
