The rumor is the knicks are trying to trade up to 5, but don’t want to give up 27, just 38. So the trade down rumors is them playing hardball

I haven't seen anything convincing about trading up for prospects except LaMelo and Wiseman. I don't picture moving to 5 unless one of them slips. There's not enough smoke around any one prospect except maybe Obi.

Okoro is the player in this draft that i feel has the highest ceiling. If the Knicks want to trade up for him I’m confident it’s because they believe the same thing.

I believe they like him. I’m cool with it if they take a shot on him because his upside is legit and the defense would be crazy. I just don’t buy them trading up for him and haven’t seen enough smoke to put that rumor above the ones about other potential moves.

knicks arent making any trades to move up or down in da draft. we will pick at 8, and we will most likely pick the wrong person.

its cool to fantasize tho i guess

Some recent Knicks news I’ve seen on Twitter that I like:

- Mike Woodson is in Louisiana with Mitch working out

- Knicks roster moves this off season will be with RJ fits in mind...

That second bit is another reason why I don't picture them trading up for Okoro. Two wings with questionable range and a rim running C. The defense is dope, the spacing is broken.

Idk RJ would drive from the left, Okoro from the right. If they get FVV and say a PF like Love or Horford to help with spacing I think they could co-exist.

Also Thibs doesn’t care about spacing, not the way most the league does.

Hell it doesn’t even need to work this year (and I legit think they just need to be bad 1 more year to have assets for a decade....), but I’d say in a year or two they can become reasonably decent 3pt shooters this makes sense.

NBA Offseason Could Have Fewer Dollars Spent But Sizable Amount Of Player Movement

The Athletic spoke anonymously to a number of agents to get their opinions on what to expect in what will be the most unusual offseason in modern NBA history given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on league revenues.

“My fear is there will be a lot of teams and ownership groups that sit out free agency," said one agent. "In terms of player movement, I think there will be a lot. Not just signing guys. Nobody wants to pay the tax. Everybody is going to try to clear space for 2021. I can definitely see a sizable amount of player movement. But not a lot of dollars spent.”

Another agent countered that theory because most players with options on the contract will opt-in and delay their free agency until 2021.

“I assume that every player, almost every player is going to opt-in," said the second agent. "That’s not common. I think it’s uncommon that almost every player opts in, and I assume everyone opts in. I assume there is reduced player movement because of that. There’s only a half dozen teams with cap space. … And there are questions amongst those teams. Are they going to spend to the cap or are they not going to spend to the cap? … I think there’s going to be significantly less player movement than a normal year.”

A third agent believes centers will find very limited offers and that some teams will be more inclined to sign rookies or minimum contract veterans.

“Big effect," said the agent. "Salary cap lower. Centers will get hit the hardest. Teams putting the most value on those who can play 1-4. As for movement, we’ll see. Teams might go with rookies or minimum contracts to keep their books low while dealing with cap uncertainty.”

We had a few discussions that moved toward cap space being valuable and what leverage the Knicks have in any trade talks. This is why I'm pushing a "wait and see" approach. It also suggests that keeping Mitch might be cheaper than you might assume.

I can't remember exactly how he put it, but Thibs emphasized corner three's in one of his first interviews after coming on board. He said he wants to generate looks at the rim and shots from the corners. I do think both RJ and Okoro can improve their jump shots, I just wouldn't bank my team's future on it unless I had Okoro head and shoulders above the rest of the options. I don't get the feeling that the Knicks believe that from the rumor mill at least.

I'd be willing to roll the dice on Okoro for sure. I still get the sense that the Knicks are more likely to stand pat and take who falls to them. Personally, I'm rooting for a trade down to get Kira and an additional asset.
