Here’s the thing we need to build a winning culture and that’s something we can get with cp3 we can have a million draft picks but we aren’t get anyone we want to come here until we show we are a competent organization all we have is drawbacks . We need to draft well player develop and put a tough competent team on the floor . I feel like some of your guys out here playing 5 G chessI'm not saying to use our cap space on FA's, I'm saying to use it on teams that want to dump contracts. Tony Snell and TJ Warren both got moved with picks just for the price of eating their contracts. Both guys were getting paid roughly 12 million a season and went for late-first/early second round compensation.
Those contracts moved at that cost when there was a weaker FA class and the salary cap was supposed to keep going up. Right now, there's even more incentive for teams to want to dump contracts. It's not as flashy as using all that cap and a first on CP3; but the long term value of eating a couple of bad contracts and gaining assets instead of losing some could be a lot more rewarding.
1. You get a few more picks to add the extra 1st and 2nd rounders that have been accumulated. Those either become young players or can be packaged for a star when we're ready to compete.
2. You keep the team in rebuild mode heading into the 2021 draft which is gonna be the most stacked in years (the 1 and done rule goes away for this one, so you get another class' worth of eligible prospects that can jump in).
3. You also could potentially do this, acquire a couple of picks and STILL have cap flexibility because these deals usually only require eating a year or two of a contract that costs half or even less than what CP3 does.
I'll say again though, I don't hate a CP3 trade. I just don't think there's a rush to do it when we have at least one more rebuilding year with or without him. Wait to gauge the trade market because even if the Thunder owners suddenly don't mind spending, there will be others that are desperate to avoid luxury tax payments while their arenas can't sell tickets.
That is a horrible trade in my opinion.
