there are rumors the Cavs would like to move down and get Obi. They might legit do a #5 trade for #8 and #27. Knicks could come away with Okoro who if he improves his shooting could be a beast.

It’s not a great fit but based on my understanding the Knicks FO will draft based on BPA. So the move up isn’t insane.

:ehh:

It’s super likely Okoro falls to 8 and Toppin goes top 3. Everything I’m reading is that Toppin the most loved player in the draft.

I've said before that I'm agnostic on this one. I'm not eating CP3's contract before I see how teams are behaving toward the uncertain future cap and 2021 free agent class combo.

That's not because Paul isn't worth it, but I think cap space might actually be valued at a premium this offseason. If contenders want him, let's see how much they're willing to give up. 40 million in cap SHOULD net multiple picks when you're rebuilding.
this offseason is a write off for more reasons than one. plus theres no good free agents anyway. shyt wont be normal until 2022. by then, paul is pretty much off da books or could be bought out if we get him

we had cap space last offseason with a way better free agent class and did nothing.

I don’t know if Obi is there at 8.

I also don’t think Okoro is a fit. The worst FT and 3PT shooting team shouldn’t take a sub-30% three point shooter who shot 67% from the line. He’s a raw athlete who needs development time and we already have Barrett.

I said it here mad times “Thibs don’t give a fukk about a 3”. I’ve accepted that, ya’ll will too.... I don’t know how offensively it would work, but Thib barely cares about offense. He is the anti-D’antoni.
I'd rather keep both picks but yall know I stan Kira Lewis already, so that's my main reasoning. I'd throw in though that I think 27 should have some intriguing talent. This draft is lacking clear stars but the parity of prospects from late-lottery on and the limited scouting options this offseason means some really interesting talent could shake loose.

To be fair I said this a few days ago, we have never been attached to anyone who you would expect to be drafted at 27. They’ve never moved like they expected to use that pick. If they can move into the top 5 for just #27 which is what the rumor is, you got to give them credit.
:jbhmm:

There have been no mentions of those late first pick player’s names. The only things I’ve heard has always had us either around 8 or near the end of the lottery. Which not for nothing I think they could probably get a late lottery pick by absorbing a contract.

I'm not saying to use our cap space on FA's, I'm saying to use it on teams that want to dump contracts. Tony Snell and TJ Warren both got moved with picks just for the price of eating their contracts. Both guys were getting paid roughly 12 million a season and went for late-first/early second round compensation.

Those contracts moved at that cost when there was a weaker FA class and the salary cap was supposed to keep going up. Right now, there's even more incentive for teams to want to dump contracts. It's not as flashy as using all that cap and a first on CP3; but the long term value of eating a couple of bad contracts and gaining assets instead of losing some could be a lot more rewarding.

1. You get a few more picks to add the extra 1st and 2nd rounders that have been accumulated. Those either become young players or can be packaged for a star when we're ready to compete.

2. You keep the team in rebuild mode heading into the 2021 draft which is gonna be the most stacked in years (the 1 and done rule goes away for this one, so you get another class' worth of eligible prospects that can jump in).

3. You also could potentially do this, acquire a couple of picks and STILL have cap flexibility because these deals usually only require eating a year or two of a contract that costs half or even less than what CP3 does.

I'll say again though, I don't hate a CP3 trade. I just don't think there's a rush to do it when we have at least one more rebuilding year with or without him. Wait to gauge the trade market because even if the Thunder owners suddenly don't mind spending, there will be others that are desperate to avoid luxury tax payments while their arenas can't sell tickets.

There have been name drops of potential late first round and second round players, they just slip out of conversation quickly. I remember thinking the rumors we saw early seemed like the Knicks were gonna go BPA at 8 and then potentially target a Guard with the second first. Isaiah Joe and Cassius Stanley are the two names I'm positive came up but I also vaguely recall Grant Riller's name popping up too. I just don't think the rumor mill churns as heavy for pick 28 versus 8.

theres also the sneaky incentive that keeping CP3 in OKC makes one less team for us to compete with at the race to Cade.

In the Athletic's latest top ten picks mock, the Knicks trade 8 and Bullock to the Suns for Oubre and 10. Suns take Haliburton at 8; Knicks take Vassell at 10. Toppin, Okoro and Hayes go 5, 6 and 7 while the front 4 is the same as usual.

:hhh: That is a horrible trade in my opinion.
