yeah, everybody just sorta :yeshrug: when he got shot. Hell, I didnt even pay half attention to how serious it was.

I mean.... Pac got shot. It's like someone running up to you like ":gladbron: Hey, breh! You hear the Chiefs lost today!?"

then he died.

That night, we was chilling in an IHOP. It was quiet as fukk. No cars driving, nobody eating. It was just us and like 2 old people.

It was like... you know. for the better part of a decade, it seemed like this nikka was always fighting an uphill battle with the WORLD. Not like... struggling day to day. We all do that. But literally, the WHOLE fukkING WORLD.

And while there was periods in his career where I didn't care for dude at all, and i know there are people that flat out hated him, we all kinda...

The Perennial Underdog finally went down. The World finally won.

Who wouldn't feel bad about that? :wow:

I was 12, and just knew he was going to pull through.

I remeber MTV (when they were golden) kept giving updates every day outside the hospital, until that fateful Friday night. :to:

You know, then when he died I was like 'Woah'. you know what I'm sayin it kinda took me by suprise, even though we was going threw our drama I would NEVER
wish death on nobody 'cause there ain't no comin back from death

Even a grown man who wrote "nikkaz bleed just like us" thought Pac wuz invincible:obama:

I was twelve...remember it like it was yesterday...

Watching videos on MTV with my lil sister then Serena Alchul (sp?) came on and said he'd been shot, I was like "damn" but I wasn't the biggest 2pac fan so I didn't really acknowledge it.

When I went to school tho (7th grade) chicks and some nikkas were crying talking about how they shoot 2pac...then when he passed it was just a huge downer in the school. All my boys was like it was gonna be a national holiday:childplease:...(boy, the shyt you say when you 12-13 lol)

I was in like 4th grade when it happened... I remember that shyt being all over television...MTV had news specials on it and shyt... it was like the hip hop 9/11...

Also, the night he got shot and was in the hospital, there was a similar Aura to when Michael Jackson died, like there was still hope that he might pull through, and then I woke up the next day and dude was dead...

After watching how Eazys death just came and went without any real hoopla excpet from Bone Thugs....I thought Pac would get the same treatement. Never did imagine Pac become martyred the way he was. It seemed fake at first because all of a sudden everyone was a Pac fan when right before he died it wasnt like that. I remember weeks later after Pac died some dude was arguing with some female and he screamed "b*tch ima thug!" and the first thing i thought was "who do u think u are? Tupac? " cuz dudes werent using that term thug like that in the NY slang.....but that all changed real quick.

Maybe it was like that when you made it east of Chicago, but when All Eyez On Me dropped, Pac was definitely THAT DUDE west of he Mississippi.

People forget, It was like Pac came back from the dead twice.A lot of people thought he was done after getting sprayed up and locked up.When he, as Nas would say, dug himself out of that proverbial grave, he came back with a vengence, and a air of invincibility. He was already on some folklore shyt for popping 2 cops and walking out the courtroom with the George Jefferson strut. All i'm saying is Pac had already lived a life of urban legends and tall tales BEFORE he physically passed away. When that happened, his fabled life became one of immortal, mythical proportions. But like I said, the seeds of legendary status had already been planted before his physical death.

Just look at his whole life.Even before rap.Look at his journey and tell me what rapper had more depth & intensity n their history? This dudes mom was being a legend when she was carrying him in her belly. She'd never went to law school, but walked in the courtroom facing 300 some odd years and ate they ass up.Lil pregnant black country girl.Got her and all her co defendants off in that Panther 21 shyt. All I'm saying is, this dude was born into some folklore shyt.I think, from the beginning, he was destined to shine more than any other rapper. The nikkaz name means Shining Serpent:krs:

Half of the people were stunned and the other half didnt believe he was dead. From day one after his death people around my school tried to come up with bullshyt reasons why he would fake his death.
People really thought he'd pull through.

When it first happened, I was like "Whoa shyt, how the fukk is he gonna survive another shooting?" then as the week went on it seemed like he was gonna make it and there was talk like "Yeah when dude gets out, he's gonna be super pissed and who knows how he's gonna act" then there was some little updates here and there that it maybe more serious and then suddenly I just remember getting the news the next day and being like "Damn I guess I should have seen it coming"
The really west coast loving g'd up kids wore black and really try to rep him. From that instance you could start seeing the Pac clones pop up culturally everyone wanted to emulate his style just in school.
Everyone was wondering who was gonna get killed next, weirdly enough people thought Snoop or even Dre or Nas (cause IWW was big) might get caught in the crossfire (in reterospect that was fukking stupid but we were kids) and people werent really sure what to think of think of Puffy and Biggie and if they played a part.

But it was a big deal back then absolutley.

And then 6 months later when Biggie died that was just like "shyt just got real" and that was probably a bigger shock and had just as much news cause it felt connected.

Man you aint kidding lol

I remember when Biggie died, one kid in my classroom immediatley got up and said that "That means 2pac is alive!!!" and everyone in the classroom was like :mindblown::krs::ohhh::merchant: as if that shyt not only made sense but there was a legit connection.

And I was like...:rudy::comeon::huhldup::snoop::beli:

I really dont think I regret not hanging out with those dudes after Jr. High even to this day...

pac & big's deaths were to my generation what MLK & malcolm x' deaths were to people growing up back in those days. some people dont like to acknowledge this but its the truth.

just started 7th grade.

for starters, when he got shot, most people didnt expect him to die. it was like "its pac. he'll bounce back as usual". i mean, i basically shrugged it off and didnt even follow his condition like that during the week. i remember one day, it was reported that he was getting better. when i heard that, i was  and stopped paying attention altogether and was moreso anticipating the aftermath of it. i was sure that he would be back in the studio rapping about it within a week or 2.

then, on friday night - friday the 13th. my bul hit me on the jack and told me that pac died. i didnt even react like that at first cuz it was the 1st time one of my peers informed me of a death. so i tried to play it cool. then i stayed in cool mode when i hung up the phone. plus, his death was the opposite of expected. it didnt hit me til the next day. and then it really hit the next week. there was a dark cloud hanging over hip-hop because of this. and then biggie died 6 months later, which just added more fuel to the fire. it got to the point where people began debating which rapper would die next, as if they were debating over who the goat rapper was.

also, looking back, i was wondering why they had an old pac record on the phat 3 at 3 countdown earlier that day on the radio. i figured it was some "get well soon" type chit, but they must have broke the news on the radio right before i turned it on. i remember my dad was off that day, so he picked me up from school. that wasnt my normal routine. i prolly got home, hopped on the sega genesis and balled out in my own world until i got that phone call. thats prolly why i was late getting the news.

i hear they broke the news in like the morning time on the west coast. is that true?

i was in NY at the time, people expected him to make it, as i recall the news prior was that he was ok, then friday got worse. went to 8th grade dance at school (shut up fakkit), females was cryin and people shocked. they did the lil moment of silence thing, played a few pac jawns back to back. the days that followed, there were fights between ppl pickin sides. i lived on an army base so there was east and west coast heads. shyt was real juvenile, but it was what it was.

back then I was in HS....if you lived on the East (Philly, NYC, New Jerz)...you were too caught up in the Wu, Mobb, Nas, Biggie, Bootcamp albums to really get caught up in it. Hip Hop was dope then...a lot of ill artists, so no single person was really an icon like that where if he went down, the whole thing went down with him.

For what it's worth, I really don't remember anyone caring like that. It was more media sensationalism than anything. It was all over the news all the time with the drama on magazines, MTV, BET the radio. Shyt was a soap opera.

BTW...I still have the Phila Daily News with him on the cover announcing his death.

i agree & disagree.

you lost me when you said that the east heads didnt get caught up in it and that nobody cared.

but youre on point when you said that there was way too much going on and that hip-hop wasnt just about pac & big. there were alot of rap fans that werent a fan of either of them. the game didnt die or even pause when they got killed.

it was somber. at first everybody thought he was going to pull through. then he didnt. I played hsi music all day. I remember I was at the dmv that day, and this one guy told a bytch in front of him that tupac made it out alive, and he got her to laugh and believe in him. this was before the internet, so you could get away with that. Im pretty sure he got to hit that on the strength of lying about tupacs death.
