it's not declaring, it's getting drafted....i'm sure more HS players declared than were drafted back in the day as well. again, this addresses a very select few, those vs. a larger population that would thrive in a semi pro/jr league who are left to slave away for the NCAA. yall are missing the point, i have no issue with this rule being removed, but it's not the bigger issue. people are happy with the scraps, that's cool. i still see the bigger problem and feel it should be addressed.

You’re overestimating the power of the NBA and underestimating the NCAA. Baseball & hockey have successful minor league systems available as alternatives, that people in this very thread are saying the NBA should emulate and yet hundreds still go to college and play those respective sports, but you think the NBA will be able to wipe them out? No one disagrees about the NCAA being corrupt, but shyt isn’t that simple.

no one is saying wipe them out, it's about creating a system for the "elite" to get paid ASAP (this represents more than those who'd be drafted...), if they get drafted, great, if they don't, they then go play in the NCAA. as for those who are long shot i.e. not top 100 prospects, they'd probably end up going straight to the NCAA.

the MLB or NHL draftees who choose to go to college are doing just that, choosing because there is a choice. the fact that the NCAA has a play for us first or be ineligible for scholarships (and realistically a roster spot) is flawed. it is pretty simply to invert the flow of HS - College - Paid League or offer two viable routes post HS, but the NCAA got people too shell shocked to do it.

That is exactly what the NBA wants to avoid. If franchises die, that hurts everyone. Let’s say 5 teams die off, that’s 75 roster spots (and consequently the 75 spots for their G League affiliate) that are lost that you can’t get back.
