The major difference was that the sony/Nintendo deal fell flat, Nintendo didn't want to use their ideas, and didn't.

Sony then created their own system while Nintendo went in a completely different direction.

Sega and Microsoft worked closely together during the dream cast and xbox.
They never fell out and ideas were used.

The two situations were not the same.

I don't know why this offends you so much
Srsly... Dude seems to be affronted by this news.

Not surprised at the results, but you guys are out of your mind if you think Sega contributed as much as Microsoft. Sega was a company full of great ideas with terrible execution.

So what's the problem with saying that Microsoft took those great ideas and executed them alot better With the help of sega?

They shared ideas then, and still do today.

What ideas for Xbox did Microsoft get from sega?

In both cases they went their separate ways but ended up sharing ideas tech and games.

I'm not offended by anything. The real question is why do yall go so hard to make one compassion while trying to ignore the other.

I never denied that ideas were shared. What I said was the statement "Xbox was a spiritual successor to dreamcast" is not true. Using the criteria put forth in this thread that would make "psx a spiritual successor to snes and genesis"

Lol @ M$ destroying madden. :mjlol:
Once Xbox became the lead platform & was rushed out to match the launch. Madden last gen never recovered. A whole generation wasted. Of course we kno EA is more at fault, but man once EA was bed with MS Madden lost it self :manny:

2k in bed with Sony=:blessed:
Madden in bed with MS=:scusthov:

and Microsoft came through and executed them much better than Sega did hence why the numerous articles on gaming sites calling the OG Xbox a spiritual successor to the late Dreamcast.

As for the results, people generally are speaking about just games. I think overall people would rather a gaming situation where Microsoft's IPs cease to exist compared to the myriad of titles coming from SCE studios. No matter how much I say this, the group of guys who are wowed and geeked over the direction M$ is taking nowadays in respect to this "media box" aren't as big as the GAMERS who make up the fanbase of Sony, Nintendo and the ones interested in Xbox for gaming solely.

They've improved yes, but I think people generally are more apt to Sony for gaming than Xbox is. Seems like less people are interested in watching TV and year after year the numbers are in decline. Streaming media seems to be the wave nowadays. I can't even justify owning cable TV in 2015 unless you're a sports fan.

It also kind of explains why Xbox isn't really moving units as much as PS4 does in other countries besides the US.

Xbox really fukked up with that garbage price point at launch and their nebulous marketing.
Had they came out the gate at the price they sell Xbox Now without the whole DRM fiasco, it'd be a different story. Sony got humbled last gen.

Even I, a supposed Sony stan wasn't fukking with PS3 until like 2010. I was team Xbox last gen up until 2010 when Sony got their act together. Anything over $400 for a console is for enthusiasts and hardcore day one guys. If PS4 wasn't $400 at launch I'd probably still be on last gen with a PC.

Gang violence...
i have no ill will toward them, but MS has to go simply because they have contributed less to the overall history of gaming. if we only went by today, then i could easily say let go of sega, but if we are to judge them in totality, there is no way MS can be kept

The fact that microsoft is even as close to sega tells me how ignorant alot of people are.

Everything you enjoy about modern gaming since 1999 is because of sega and mircosoft.

The only reason we are even at this point is because of Nintendo and Sega.

Sony pushed it forward with cd based gaming.

Its literally all connected.

As far as if a company just dropping off currently now, sega easy. They aren't doing anything and haven't for a long time.
