Dont mind me..Im a azzhole
I missed that day of training or they implementin new methods 30 years later.Lifeguards are taught that you don't jump in the water to help an adult in a drowning situation because studies show that 9 out of 10 times, the person is in too much of a panic to be logical & will likely pull you down in an attempt to save their own life. It's sad to see stories like this but even worse that someone tried to help & they died all because someone wanted a piece of wood to make furniture?

j/k, but on the real..
Whats the point of being a Life Guard if you let somebody drown due to panicking, when people start to panic when thinking they are going to drown in the first place?
There are techniques taught on how to deal with a panicking swimmer and now they are saying dont jump in the water?
