Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
We don't say "NAWLINS" either fam that shyt is just a goofy nickname that caught on

I’m not from there so idk but the way that lady in the video pronounced it sounded like an aggressive NY style pronunciation

Just peeped the comments under her video and it seems like some folks from New Orleans have experienced being asked if they are New Yorkers when leaving their city.

I’ll be in New Orleans real soon again!

@old boy but she makes a point tho. The way they say “nawlins” would sound similar to a New Yorker pronouncing that exact same word.

We don’t say NAWLINS because we aren’t from there and we call it New Orleans.

actually no, their vowel sound in "nawlins" is different than how we pronounce it in "york"

we push the lips out more and the sound is more glottalized (honestly i hate the ny accent lol)

I’m looking at the comments and some of the NO folks are saying they’ve been asked if they are from NY a few times.

Can’t even find a decent video on Youtibe to further research.

I just listened to it the way she said "awlins" was accurate but we definitely fully pronounce New. Idk may people from other places don't hear it when we do

There have been several books on this. Kinda flies in the face of people among the . Ebonics/AAVE came from us applying African grammar style to the new language we were forced to learn during slavery. We still can hear this in our speech today.

I feel like I've argued about this with @xoxodede or somebody else on this forum.

:gucci: I don't even mess with that ADOS shyt heavy like that but they be the main ones discussing AA cultures african origins on this site.
