:what: :laff:

You know what we mean by 'alternative', right? as in alternative hip hop. Jesus Christ breh :snoop:

Organized Noize mentioned Dre in passing. That is not the core of the conversation. The core of the conversation is how they wanted to appeal to a larger market while having some sort of credibility with their music and thus structured their music a certain way. Which is why they infused stuff with RnB/pop/soul elements but rightfully stayed away from keyboard sounds so it wouldn't sound p*ssy. Why are you avoiding this very obvious convo? None of your responses have dealt with this head-on. Instead you've deflected every step of the way to mention tangential shyt. Do you not understand what we mean by Outkast being alternative hip hop, and how that has always been popular with casuals? Just say you don't understand instead of pretending otherwise. It's weird: it's like you're expecting ON to tell you my exact post word for word otherwise my posts aren't true. Which is some 3rd grade and below type shyt. One of the basic parts of grade school is comprehension. Being able to say what someone just said in your own words and dig deeper into what they're saying directly, indirectly, or possibly hiding.

Instead you're here quick to deflect to Tribe and Dre. We're talking about Outkast and Outkast only. Stop playing dumb.
No I dont know what alternative hip hop is. What the fukk is that? Im trying to figure out how any of this makes Kast "alternative". Alternative to what?:heh:

I could see if you were talking about their weirder later shyt. But when they first came out they were just some regular nikkas. I guess this makes Goodie Mob "alternative" too

:mjlol:That's one of the goat verses u must be on that fukk east coast bias shyt.

Infamous and hoe are better then all of outkast albums. Murda muzik as well escpecially the bootleg. Juvenile hell is probably the only album that takes the l & that shyt didn't even really count.

See. This is the shyt I don’t understand.
What puts Outkast in a different stratosphere? Because Dre made a pop rock song and they went diamond and got a grammy?

No. They been outselling Mobb since the first album.

Kast just had better music. Better production(ONP is much better than Hav), better lyrics, more depth, more versatile, bigger impact etc.

Kast is on a Nas, Jay level of eliteness.

@KingBenji got banned once for making egg jokes after Prodigy died. Don't pay any attention to him.

You mean, like Mobb Deep?

nope

theres instances where I feel that theyre overrated; prodigy in particular, but nothing that's on revisionist or ridiculous levels.

You can't be alternative and "mainstream" at the same time. That's not how it works. You get an alternative label when your music is considered different from what's popular. Kast actually being as successful as they are is a rarity because nearly every alternative artist in Hip Hop had a short shelf life. They had 1-3 albums thay were big and it was a wrap. Most of them just had the one album. Before Kast, ATCQ was about the only alternative rap artists that had any kind of longevity.

Even still, Kast wasn't 100% alternative because they still had content that was hood/street. They still had lyrics with first person narratives of selling drugs, violence, misogyny and topics that are usually eschewed by alternative artists. When Kast first dropped, it was kind of Souls of Mischief rapping over Chronic and Doggystyle production with a hood/street image.
