The article you posted further proves how dumb the term alternative rap is and how most people don't know shyt about hip hop. Who the fukk wrote that dumb ass article?
:mjlol:

Hip hop wouldn't even exist without other genres. Based on this article than The Message was "alternative". And you can tell some white dude who prolly isn't even a fan of the music wrote.

The reason I keep bringing up Dr. Dre is for context purposes. If Organized Noize was doing the same thing as Dre wouldn't that make him alternative rap as well? what makes them alternative rap and him not? Please answer the question

I'm not answering your dumb ass question. If you're still asking what alternative hip hop is after all I've provided, you are in fact too lazy to be wasting time on. So I'm done with this convo. It's fukking inane at this point. You're clearly not well read when it comes to this hip hop shyt and for some emotional reason you're not putting in any effort. I'm here posting receipts - interviews, links to better explain shyt. And you're sitting here on some child shyt like: 'no! What about [insert any rap group that is NOT Outkast]' :mjlol:

You've brought nothing to the table but deflections. Zero comprehension, zero details on the actual topic. I don't mind you disagreeing with me but you gotta do way better than this.

I can't for the life of me understand how someone can't see the obvious. There are LEVELS to this hip hop shyt and there always have been. Just because something has a hip hop drum in it doesn't make it 100% hip hop - in fact, shyt might not even be hip hop at all. Just because something has rhymes in it doesn't make it 100% hip hop. There are degrees to which people use hip hop in their music. Outkast use hip hop to a lesser degree than Mobb Deep. And you can tell by how aggressive/not aggressive the drums/melodies are (hip hop at its core is aggressive, raw) and how the song is structured (verses, scratch chorus or nah, lack of a chorus, sing songy hooks, use of bridges or nah, etc). Hip hop is a feeling. You listen to this genre long and deep enough you just know who's doing hip hop for real, who's kinda doing it, and who's pretending to do it while not even being in the ballpark.

You stay typing a whole lotta nothing:heh:

Like the oldheads used to tell me. The more a nikka talks about it the more likely he aint bout it

I don't talk about it, unless the topic is brought up.
and when its brought up, I'm gonna toot my horn. I'm not taking the high road to a couple of people that are clearly beneath me in said aspects.

if you have a problem with it, then you shouldn't have took it there. we wouldnt have even had this conversation if you dudes didnt want to deflect. i just came in here to talk music..

so miss me with this faux reverse-psychology bullchit.

miss me breh talking about being well read on hip hop:russ:

Ive been listening to hip hop for over 30 years. I don't need an article or video to explain shyt to me. All I wanna know is what make Kast alternative hip hop and no one has provided an answer for me in their words. I know exactly what they mean when they call something alternative. I just don't respect their opinion becuz the same reasons they give for calling an act alternative can be used for a whole lotta shyt that wouldn't be considered alternative. So yes keep ignoring my questions becuz that only proves you cant answer them in your own words

By your own admission you didn't even start listening to hip hop till this century but you come off like your an expert based on all the videos and articles you read. Talking about aggressive drums and melodies and shyt
:mjlol:

So I guess hip hop started with Run DMC. Grandmaster and the Furious 5 were making R&B . The Breaks was done by a live band. I guess Kurtis Blow was an "alternative" rap act

I don't understand the point of this comparison. Yeah, they were both hot in the 90s... but this is for the childrens. Look at how this shyt will make Mobb look as if they were some underground sensation or something smh.
Lol they are though

and when its brought up, I'm gonna toot my horn.

if you have a problem with it, then you shouldn't have brought it up. youre just mad because I didn't sit back with my mouth closed, and you cant have your way like you do with these lil dudes on here.

so miss me with this faux reverse-psychology bullchit.
You brought it up tho. All I said was that I was a certain age when that shyt was out and I remember it well. Evidently that touched a sensitive bone in your body becuz you started typing out long soliloquies about how much work you put in on the streets. Heartfelt ass nikka

okay, youre just talking stupid now.
and I don't care about what your age was. you aint nobody oldhead nucca.

you based your entire outlook on your mom, who was clearly a casual listener. no disrespect.
now youre trying to base your argument on radio. another casual argument.

and it doesn't matter what outkast was rapping about. I'm talking about BASES. youre beating all around the bush. just acknowledge that you were out the loop & fallback.
and not that it matters but since you keep trying to lean on it, outkast rapped about that chit VAGUELY. you cant compare that to an 8ball & mjg. and more importantly, you cant compare the two groups in terms of sound, style, crossover appeal & label-backing.

just admit youre not up on what I'm talking about & keep pushin.

yea, they entered the pop realm with rosa parks & cemented it with stankonia.
but yall don't realize that they were in the r&b realm from day one.
chit their whole entrance into the game was r&b. they had no underground buzz or nothing, and came in under laface/arista.

you didn't just say that. you tried to bring up my age(and you tried to lower it on top of that), and you tried to take shots.
when in reality, youre a cornball that wouldn't have even been around my crowd IN REAL-TIME.

so how the f*ck else do you expect me to respond? youre just mad cuz that chit blew up in ur face.
aint nothing sensitive over here. I just don't give out free passes. and youre disappointed that I don't. go run your routine somewhere else.

youre in the midst of two different argiuments where two different people are calling you out on deflecting and being full of chit. THINK ABOUT IT.

next time you try to give a summary, TELL THE WHOLE STORY.
and while youre at it. STOP LYING. where did I say anything about what work I put in on the streets?? youre a dikkhead.

long soliloquy's?? maybe. I talk that talk, and I can type fast as f*ck, as you can see.

Goofy video. We all know Outkast are the more commercially successful group. They made alternative rap, and that always sells more among cacs.

Listening to the tracks in the video though, and it's incredible how much better Mobb are than Outkast. :wow: Actual, rugged hip hop has never been popular with the mainstream unless someone someone got murked/near-murked

cpvbd38kuprwgcrqm7bd.gif

This excuse should ONLY be used for those that didnt ATTEMPT to gain pop success.

Also, dont get it twisted and think MOBB was more popular amongst the black community than OUTKAST. Naw breh. It wasnt just "mainstream" that was fukking with them more.

theres certain feelings, vibes & nuances that you get from furious five or kurtis blow songs, that an outkast record cant possibly provide.

for your sake, I hope you know this and youre just playing dumb again.

ehh

that video came out years after the fact when mob deep was washed up.

Obviously you do because you're still confused about a basic concept even after the frequent explanations. Which is why I said you're not well read. Alternative rap is not a new concept and has been discussed for decades in your average hip hop article.

I'm ignoring your questions because they've already been answered or they're off-topic (and given your dumb/scanty responses, going into detail would be a waste of my time.) I've given you the common courtesy by fleshing out my viewpoints with receipts. You've never done this so why would I bother to continue :dahell:

By your own admission you didn't even start listening to hip hop till this century

Do you even know what the words 'by your own admission' mean? Because I never said any of that anywhere. The internet geeks that stalk me all day are the ones that made that up. At this point, only a moron would listen to stalker fanfiction.

I've actually said on this site tons of times (and I'll say this again) that I started listening to hip hop in '93 and really got into it by 1997. I lived abroad but I got family/friends in the US and I'm here all the time. I'm literally in New York right now typing this. How and why y'all keep spinning weirdo tales and pushing the dates is beyond me but I'm guessing insecurity has a big part to play in it.

At this stage, I don't even care how long a person's been listening to hip hop. It's the oldest trick in the book used by frauds. You've been consuming hip hop for 30 years? Good for you. I could care less. If you're not willing to think critically about what you listen to, not interested in insight, don't think it's worth it to read articles, opinions, videos on the shyt and appreciate the culture on a deeper level, you're no better than a casual. You've been listening to hip hop for so long yet you don't know what alternative hip hop means and we've wasted posts going back on forth on this super-easy-to-understand, known term that was used in your average hip hop article from at least the 90s. Unbelievable :snoop: There are posters on here that are younger than you and I who clearly have a better grasp on hip hop than all the old shytposters in The Booth.

And of course, you started reaching into my background instead of just following the topic. This is the definition of shytposting and why The Booth is a cesspool. People here love to pretend but don't care and know about hip hop music nearly as much as they claim to.

Nah you got sensitive when you did this

and I see how you tried to go way off-topic with this butt-hurt post, and didn't even address what we were actually arguing about.

You know damn well I know my shyt. Throughout this whole thread I just wanted to know how Kast was alternative. The best you can come up with is that they incorporated different types of music in their production. When I point out that other acts have always done this and why aren’t they called alternative you say I’m deflecting and won’t answer the question. This is what leads me to believe that most of your knowledge come from articles and videos. My knowledge come from hand in experience. This is coming from someone who used to rap and still has friends who make beats. nikkas sampled everything under the sun of it could be made hot

I can see why groups like PM Dawn and Arrested Development was called that. But Outkast doesn’t add up. Not their first album anyway

You could've kept all that to yourself. If we're gonna continue to interact you need to establish some kinda credibility. I gave you schools, pics, names, dates, streets, addresses....you gave me a wall of text with zero information.

Who are you, exactly?

I need details. Specific details. Dates, names, places, pictures, the works. If you can't do that, then I really got no reason to entertain this exchange.

And we wouldn't have been cordial....you were 9 when I was 19. I can't get "stripes" off interacting with you. I was into rap before you were born, for Christ sake.

Fred.
