At this point. I’m not even sure what we’re talking about. :yeshrug:
You say you aren’t saying soft, but then reference Arrested Development.
I really don’t understand then what alternative means here :yeshrug:

Again, alternative is anything that differs from the norm, tradition, or what's popular. That's all it is. When people try to break it down with saying it's mixing Jazz, R&B, Neo-Soul, Pop/Rock elements into Hip Hop, they are off base. Why? Because that definition would pretty much include all forms of Hip Hop.

People who really fukk with the Mobb get this. :psalute:

Diet Infamous :prodigylol:

I still can't believe he said that. The Infamous is damn pop music compared to Hell on Earth. :why:

And when I say that, I'm not dissing The Infamous at all because that was a fantastic album. But with Hell on Earth, they went all the way with it and made it as grimy and anti-mainstream as they possibly could. :whoa:

So what is the norm then?

now that you mentioned it, outkast music was soft too.:manny:

maybe alternative rap isn't the best term used to reasonate in this discussion. for the sake of getting the point across, I'll just say that they always made crossover music. not sellout music. but they always had direct appeal to other genre markets. they inherited a lot of arrested development's fanbase from day one. the pm dawn crowd, etc. that's all people are saying, and they brought it up to support YOUR argument about the sales comparison being misleading.

Well I said "alternative rap" in quotations because it wasn't actually alternative rap.

Alternative rap would be some shyt like Anticon, clouddead, THEM, etc. Real weird, damn near spoken word type shyt. Not particularly good, honestly.

this is def outkast by album #2

album #1 fit the mode for different reasons.

The thread is spinning it's wheels because we're dealing with people that wasn't even into rap back then, and heard zero of these albums in real time.

Fred.

I wasn't into rap back then now?? don't try to lie on my name on the slick. that's that sneaky devil chit.

and don't try to say youre not talking about me, because youre only arguing with 2 posters, and you used the term "people"(plural) and couldn't say any names.

LAME

this also rendered "hell on earth" to being a bit dry & hard to digest.

Outkast was never into the Arrested Development/PM Dawn lane. One album wonders. That is Fugees' The Score territory not Kast. Arrested Development nor PM Dawn never had the respect or acceptance that Kast does in Hip Hop. Even with The Fugees, they are still a beloved group in Hip Hop. By Kast, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums, they still had content that was violent, misogynist, drug related, etc.

1. I didn't say they were in the same lane. I said they inherited a lot of their fans.
2. neither of those groups were one-hit wonders. and that's besides the point anyway.
3. the rest of this rant has even less to do with the point.

Nah, outside of a couple songs....not at all. Thought the beats in particular were weak as fukk compared to their previous shyt. Rhymes were cool but P had started to slip already.

Plus the random ass guest spots from Ball and Cease.

It didn't feel like a cohesive Mobb Deep album.

Fred.

Damn not you Fred

Yeah shytty album:russ:

Both dope groups but lets go album for album, first 4.

Southern ( easily their second best album, might even be their best ) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Juvenile Crap
Infamous >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Atliens ( and atliens is classic but infamous is just fukking infamous )
HOE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Aquemini ( not even close )
MM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stankonia

Now if you rearrange these to a more suitable comparison,

Infamous > Southern
HOE >= Atliens
MM >> Aquemini

Plus mobbs unreleased / collabs / affiliates / mixtapes / guest appearances are vastly superior to Kast's

Love Outkast especially their first 2 albums but they arent touching the mobb, no way no how. Hell I might take Goodie's first 2 albums over any combo of their first 3 albums, especially any combo that has Aquemini in it. Cee-lo back then > 3k imo.

3. the rest of this rant has even less to do with the point.

1. There has never been proof presented that they inherited a lot of their fans. Even still, groups have to share many similarities in order to inherit fans of other bases.

2. I emphasized album, not hit. What other album besides Arrested's debut was huge? PM Dawn was never really huge outside of like three hits.

3. It wasn't a rant. That part of the post shows the difference between Kast and Arrested Development. Arrested Development, like The Fugees after them, resonated with people because they were remaking these classic old school songs and it was safe music for people who didn't really like Rap/Hip Hop. That wasn't Kast.

1. what proof?? either youre cognizant of it or youre not.

2. youre right. I apologize for that. its still besides the point tho.
sidenote: 3 big hits is a huge feat in itself. the fact that their names are still brought up way more than people with numerous successful albums, says something. but again, this is all besides the point.

3. outkast was ALWAYS safe music for people that didn't really like hip-hop. some of yall just didn't catch onto it until later when they got bigger & more blatant with it. but that's on yall if yall cant keep up.

the difference between outkast and groups like pm dawn/arrested development is that outkast also developed a substantial hip-hop base. I don't know why yall keep acting like I'm grouping them in with those groups, because I'm clearly not. i wouldnt even be surprised if theyre not influenced by them either. I'm just saying they drew from their consumer base. AND THATS ALL IM SAYING. and it goes back to the argument that was already brewing, about how you cant compare their sales to a mobb deep. but people don't want to come to grips with the fact that outkast wasn't selling on some str8 hip-hop chit. u even have people that try to act like SB/TLB was a hip-hop success(nobody in this thread, but a lot of people on this board try that chit).
