You can't make a legitimate argument that Mobb was more Hip Hop than Kast and expect to be taken seriously and vice versa. The reason why is because it would be like saying BDP was more Hip Hop than Eric B. and Rakim or Run DMC. BDP had a grimier sound, but that didn't make them any more or less Hip Hop than their contemporaries.

For the record, I'm not saying ATLiens was a soft album. I'm saying the three songs I mentioned (Jazzy Belle, Babylon and Growing Old) were "softer" than anything on SPCM. I don't consider them R&B/hip-hop. They are hip hop records without a doubt.

In any event, I was only making that observation to explain why, subconsciously, I prefer SPCM to ATLiens.

This is a minor gripe as to two albums that I love

See. This is why i refuse to talk to you.

Why would an rnb label sign and promote a “gangsta rap” group in the first place?

Why would they choose and RNB xmas album to be where they were first premiered if thats not the LANE they were in.

Name one rap group that made their premier on an RNB album.. a XMAS one at that. fukk “gangsta rap” or “pimp rap” or whatever other genee yall trying to say kast was occupying... name one RAP artist that was premiered this way.

Would you put mobb deep on a xmas album? No you wouodnt. It was a NATURAL FIT for kast cuz THAT WAS THEIR LANE.

Yall kast stans are something else dude.

There is NOTHING wring with occupying that lane. Infact kast was PIONEERS of that lane..

And yall know for a goddamn fact if this thread was about “who pioneered rnb hip hop” youd be screaming outkast...

But when the conversation leans towards “whos more hip hop/why are one groups sales less than the other” you talking out ya ass cuz you’re a stan. Its ok im a wu stan. But be consistant bro im too smart to fall for that shyt sorry. Be real with yaself for a minute please. Kast was promoted by an rnb label, featired rnb esque songs, and were inteoduced on an rnb soft ass xmas album.... but kast aint in the hiphop/rnb lane which they were one ofbthe first to truly be successful at in an era wherevthis shyt popped off.

Biggie made rnb records too but we all group with mobb over kast. We do that for a reason.

Maybe they signed OutKast necause they saw an opportunity to expand their business beyond R&B. Considering hiw huge Hip Hop was, everybody wanted in. Its no different than Hip Hop labels scooping up acts outside of Hip Hop. Business is business.

They chose to put them on an X Mas album as a means to promote the group. They weren't the only Hip Hop acts doing X Mas songs and appearing on X Mas albums either. Snoop was one of the biggest gangsta rappers out at the time and there he is with an X Mas song on a compilation that features multiple Danny Boy songs.

So here you are again, singling Kast out for something other artists did as well. You even admitted to Biggie have an R&B esque sound (multiple singles with Total or Faith) and he wasn't the only one. It was indicative of that era. And you wonder why I called you a hater.

If you wanna call then R&B inspired that's fine. So was Dr. Dre's shyt. Was their music more soulful than most hip hop out at the time? Of course. But to lump them along with Arrested Development and PM Dawn is when this thread went left

:mindblown:

ive went out of my way like 10 times in this thread, to let it be known that I'm not lumping outkast in the same category as those groups.

I'm saying that they drew from that lane and inherited the general audience from that market.

either youre stupid, or you shut your brain down because you want to view outkast as pimp-trick-gangsta-click rappers.

The observation that I made was that people like my middle aged mother were fans of Arrested Development. That makes me sheltered?

I was just showing how dumb it was that you said Outkast inherited their fans. I was thoroughly "cognizant' of what was going on

youre not telling the whole story. nice try dumbass.

and I didn't say that outkast inherited every single person that listened to arrested development or pm dawn. I'm saying, they drew from the market that those groups established.

they were never a group that sold on just some hip-hop chit. not even when they were going just 1x platinum.

No it was becuz they were from the south. NY weren't bumping shyt from the south in 94 so how would they even know what Kast sounded like outside their couple singles? Its just something you needed to be cognizant of at the time

you don't know what youre talking about.

outkast always had some sort of a presence on the east coast.

outkast made coast-less music(which is why I laugh when yall try to credit them for the south's come-up). they were LAFACE mixed with native tongue & west coast backpack.

and like I said, there were people who didn't really like rap that listened to them, because they drew from that AD lane.

Listen bro im not even gon respond to this.

Yur the dude who told me kast dbl album wasnt 10 bucks when it dropped in all the stores and YOU proceeded to post a ad showing it was and you still somehow were denying it.

Its safe to say yur too much of a stan to have any discussion on this subject be worthwhile and informative

lol

that was a classic.

I think the only reason why I entertain @JustCKing is so I can laugh at em.

Then why aren't you in a padded cell yet hugging yourself yet?

you can try to flip what I say all you want, but it wont stick.

words don't stick unless they have merit.

because you see the group held in high regard, you don't get it and therefore feel the need to downplay them..

breh, I clearly get IT and understand their appeal more than you do.

and I'm not downplaying anybody. you'd know this is you got out your feelings.

If you really listened to the albums, you wouldn't need a tracklist.

the f*ck type of dumb chit are you on???

and even if I didn't listen to their music, it would still be neither here nor there. this is about simple observation and the outside fanbases that they've been eating off of from day one. see this is why I say that u cant comprehend anything.

One could argue that any Hip Hop artist selling 1 million copies and upwards did it strictly on Hip Hop dollars. Its rather weak to claim Kast usurped Arrested's audience just so you can discredit their sales.

By saying they drew from the same audience is lumping them together. Its a slick way of saying they were damn near similar and you know it. Facts are Kast created their very own lane based on the fact nobody sounded like them at the time. But it definitely wasn't "coast less" music. The people who were "cognizant" at the time realized that this was some real hip hop shyt coming out of the south and we weren't used to that. But at the same time there was no mistake it was from the south which is why it took people a while to fully understand. shyt like that is what led them to being booed at the Source Awards. People didn't know what to make of them

the difference is, theres certain nuances, feelings & emotions that a hip-hop record generally possesses & gives off, that you cant possibly get from an outkast record.

why? because outkast were always a hybrid-based group.

its not about whose grimier. a Jermaine dupri record gives off a traditional hip-hop feel & vibe. JD is no less hip-hop than an eric b or BDP.

and that's not to pull outkast's hip-hop card. just saying they know what their lane is.

youre just regurgitating the same uninformed arguments in dfferent words.

This shouldn't even be that serious. What was a cool discussion went off the rails with posters putting on tinfoil helmets on some:

giphy.gif

^^^ all that just discredit the group's Hip Hop credentials instead of just droppin' an opinion and keeping it moving. Bizarre BS if I've ever seen it.

You're just typing BS to be typing BS. You are the only person who is questioning Outkast as Hip Hop. You don't know what a nuance is or was if it smacked you in the face. In terms of feeling and emotion, that's more so personal. If you don't feel, then it ain't for you. It doesn't make it any more or less Hip Hop.

Jermaine Dupri is traditional Hip Hop, but Kast isn't? Yeah, you're biased because the same argument you're using against Kast actually applies more to JD than it does them. Even JD cops to Kast being more Hip Hop than him.

no that's not what I'm saying doofus.
if I wanted to insult outkast, theyre an easy group to throw dirt at. I don't need to make slick comments to get my point across. and I'm sure yall know that's not even my style. I take it str8 to your face.
you want it to be an insult, so you can brush it off and keep believing your fantasy chit.

lol @ outkast creating their own lane & not sounding like anybody. they came out rapping like souls of mischief & them.

kast was always a coast-less group, and I just broke down as to why, in my previous post.
and you'd be surprised how many people didnt really know where they were from.

a minute ago, you were saying nobody knew their music up top.
now youre trying to sing another tune.

f*ck out my face. i'd rather argue with @JustCKing slow ass.

I went out of my way to say that I'm not pulling outkast's hip-hop card, and yet your 1st sentence in response is this bullchit. you gotta be retarded.

JD never said all that.

Jermaine dupri is the epitome of mid-late '80s hip-hop revisited.
only people that don't see that are sausage-fest music lovers.

They weren't nothing like Souls of Mischief. There's little nuances between the two that are different that maybe you just weren't cognizant of. I never said nobody knew their music I said nobody in NY. I just said NY was bumping them like that. Music videos did exist in 94

The fact that he said JD was more hip hop even tho JD has more R&B credits under his belt than hip hop sums up the garbage he has made the last 8 pages of this thread

you've already been sonned by other people on the souls of mischief chit. I'm not going back n forth with ya simple ass.

what is LIKE THAT??
outkast wasn't all that popular to be played LIKE THAT anywhere outside of Georgia and the backwoods bumpkin towns that they generally put on for in their first few videos.

I'm just saying they had enough of a presence for people to know what they were hittin for.

if you spent more time using your brain, rather than looking up gifs, we wouldn't even be having this argument.

its not about opinion. its a FACT that they always drew sales from audiences outside of hip-hop.

yall just don't want to acknowledge the obvious because it goes against your agendas, when you try to compare dungeon family to death row or some other ridiculous chit 25 years after the fact.

I don't agree with you. Plain and simple. Anything you can't back up is an opinion. That's the disconnect between you and reality. Just because you feel or think a certain way about something doesn't make it facts. Facts can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The fact is that all artists draw sales from audiences outside of Hip Hop. It's proven that a lot of people who love or claim to love Hip Hop don't even buy Hip Hop albums from even their favorite artists, yet people that only listen to a few or a just a selection of Hip Hop artists shell out cash on just those artists.

The only person who has an agenda is you. You're the only one who updates a thread talking about how real heads don't view Kast as GOAT contenders.

Nobody compared Dungeon Family to Death Row. I compared an X Mas compilation to an X Mas compilation. One was released by La Face. The other by Death Row. Both heavily featured R&B songs with a gangsta rapper having an X Mas song as a single and video.
