in that...i saw the hawks and bulls in title games. One converted to tske the game global. The other chicago sporting franchise failed. Till two decades or more later. Where that fervor was never the same fervor or reverence for Jordan and the bulls.
as the hawks are/were perceived. as below the bulls in permeation and they both played the Stanley cup and nba finals at the same time in the same venue.

I guess the point I'm making is more about culture.

For example, old head culture is still prevalent in baseball. Ie throwing at someone who showboats etc . You can argue that maintaining that old school culture has cost baseball in popularity bc they aren't adapting. But to an older crowd it still feels like the baseball they grew up on.( The steroid era is a fair point you made....but let's argue the steroid era = the 3pt era. Ppl enjoyed the steroid era initially, but then it ended. The 3pt era was enjoyed initially but it has taken over completely.)

I think hockey is that same way, somewhat.

To your point the entry into both sports is expensive, which does remove a portion of available players...but that also ensures the traditional culture is passed down.

I just think if you greq up seeing a certain type of basketball, the game you see now is drastically different vs baseball/hockey are still pretty similar to what you watched previously

NHL has a point system so literally every game matters because you could have more losses than one team but still get points if those losses were in an overtime game therefore pushing you ahead. while the NBA has just wins and losses you get way more lead way with that especially because typically if a team reaches 44-48 wins they are making the playoffs so you get more room for error.
