I read this was the most watched non playoff NHL game in the U.S. since 2011, this clearly wasn’t normal numbers by any means

I think for sure the real life political tensions added to it though, not denying that
That part def did

But the fights are really what separated this and gave it the mainstream attention, and even then it was still not even an iota of coverage compared to the NBA

I don’t doubt it’ll be huge I may even tune in some and I generally don’t care about hockey :hubie:

Even myself I haven;t watched a full nhl game in years but I watched that past game. National pride goes a long way. Which is why I said the NBA should adopt a world vs USA model.

Still don't understand how you saw how popular basketball was at the last Olympics and try and get a piece of that pie.

NHL is the one making the money in this tourney not iihf or ioc

hell if I was the nba a mini tourney

Team Europe
Team Africa
Team USA
Team Canada

Canada and USA gets three sanctioned fights in the first 9 seconds to help it go viral.

I'm sure if Dray and KD were allowed to run a fade in the 1st qtr of an All Star game the ratings would go up too :yeshrug:

Again the game was on ABC canada vs usa always gets big ratings

when they played in the olympics in 2010 the rating was 27

The NHL point system is a joke that simply aims to make bad teams look better than they are to sell "hope" to their fans. There's no real reason why losing in overtime should be rewarded. You still lost and no other sport in America does that.
I agree I’m just pointing out why nhl teams play hard and players are playing almost every game

Problem is the U.S. still has too much of a talent advantage

Even if you did USA vs World this year then somebody like Wiggins might have been an all-star this year. You might have had to include Luka even though he only played like 20 games

Scrap the all star

Look at the NHL did most of those guys wouldn't be an all star

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Man, the NBA has a LeBron problem—but no one wants to say it. Breh is not a legitimate competitor like that, let alone hyper-competitive like greats of the past. He ushered in this era of player-empowerment, team stacking, etc. and the product has suffered tremendously for it. If LeBron was in the ASG really hooping on some, “I’m leaving here with something,” shyt, the other players would fall in-line. Everybody knows that. Yet Bron isn’t that guy. He’s the exact opposite (i.e., sat out last minute). Even if he had played, he would have been going thru the motions at half-speed. shyt, I remember Kobe yelling at LeBron for passing up a potentially big-time shot in the final moments of an ASG. I think it was in Orlando.

Are all of the product issues his fault? No. There’s been rule changes and Silver being an incompetent and feckless commissioner has exacerbated the issues. Are all of the culture issues LeBron’s fault? No. With that being said, LeBron is a GOAT—however—he’s the originator of a lot of the cultural issues in today’s game. He’s the league’s leader. He’s the guy the other plays look to and take their cues from. When they were debating cancelling the season after George Floyd, he was the guy that all the players wanted his input. If he was out there diving for loose balls on some Kobe shyt during the ASG, the games would be different.

The NHL has had a bigger viewership decline this season than the NBA.

NHL will always be limited in America. People aren't tuning out due to lack of competitiveness which seems to be the case with the NBA. The NBA has allowed its regular season to become a joke and the lack of competitiveness shows.
