I think Pac was about that life and that he looked up to successful people in any lane including gangsters.It wasn't a real beef. Pac mighta been suspicious originally because it was a suspicious coincidence. But later he knew it wasn't Big. Biggie even said he asked him about it face to face one time and Pac's reply was "I'm just trying to sell records."
Tupac was never really about that life for real for real. He was basically doing whatever Suge told him to.
However I also believe that he was a smart dude, rap beef was a popular thing. Everyone was beefing with someone back then, now the fact that this lead to deaths was another thing. That was probably none of the rappers intentions.

This .... my opinion is pac was one of those cats who had such an ego and didn’t want to look funny style by taking back what he said especially something like that (wen he didn’t know if it was true or not ) and ran with it..... I don’t think pac knew how far it was gona go but it went that far that even if he wanted to I think he couldn’t take back what he said especially wen suge got involved....
