That might be true but given how naive and delusional some of his fans are (@Black Jesus) a win over any opponent would put him back on Floyds level in their minds.

If he wins impressively it's more likely that the boxing public will want to. See him get redemption against Marquez. If he manages to get past him then i could see another push for a Floyd/Pacquiao fight. Unfortunately by that time Floyd would probably be pushing 40 and there's no telling how much further Pac will have declined.
Like i said, too little too late from Team Pacquiao. They should've signed the contract a couple of years ago when the timing was perfect.. if only Manny wasn't afraid of needles despite being covered in tattoos.
