It's actually horrible policy. It's going to have the exact same consequences that eliminating illegals from farming and construction had. None of the infrastructure required to make the policy work has been put into place, Because it require monetary investment by Republicans in workforce training and company subsidies. Republicans obviously wont do this because of taxes.
Immigrants are almost 20% of the nations truck drivers. And in California specifically almost 46 percent are first gen immigrants. The vast majority of immigrants do not have greencards, meaning they would be ineligible to do this needed work. Now You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see how eliminating them from the labor pool will have catastrophic effects on normal people who don't do trucking But rely on stable and affordable shipments.
Trucking, especially over the road trucking is very difficult and mentally strenuos work due to the time commitment + shyt working conditions. These arent glamorous jobs which mean they need recent immigrants to do them or the national logistics infrastructure collapses. This will affect everything from the supply of pharmaceuticals for hospitals, to the supply of food for grocery stores , to even local businesses which need precursor products in order to manufacture domestically.
You have to have a proper training program for citizens and subsidies to trucking companies before implementing a rule like this, otherwise you're just unleashing chaos into the supply chain. And just like with these stupid ice raids , republicans have put none of this infrastructure into place.

This isn’t your rinky-dink country where everyone basically abides by no rules or laws because no one cares.
I feel the same way about certain cities that just hand people licenses without any proper driving tests or driving SCHOOLS. People need to be TAUGHT how to drive.
