Hits or not, I think he made some of his strongest singles after 2002 though, especially the singles off Life is Good and this Kings Disease (The Don, Bye Baby, Daughters, Ultra Black, Spicy etc) even the SD album had some good albums (Just a moment, Theifs Theme). Whatever the reason, I dont think its his fault, if he did the right he'd be way different of an artist

The Don sounded like a J Love throwaway
Thief’s Theme was dope but once again nikkax wasn’t trying to hear that shyt at no gathering
Daughters was ok but something you would never want to hear again despite being well intentioned

As an artists the responsibility falls on you to mix whatever message you’re trying to get across with making a song accessible to people

Let’s not act like Nas is the only person that tried to make songs with a message as a single. There’s been others who have done it bigger & better

The fact remains that the world moved on from Nas in a commercial sense because he stopped feeding the people

Ironically Spicy was Nas’s first attempt in yearsssssss to make contemporary music. Oddly enough that was the first Nas song I heard in eons coming out of cars. It’s almost as if he deliberately stopped making move your feet music

He also had Bye Baby. Thief’s Theme wasn’t on that album. He could’ve easily made Virgo or You Know My Style right off THAT album if he was chasing singles and even then. Alotta people fukked with Just A Moment. shyt was in 106 and Park’s top 10 at the time. But Daughters was fire. Do u remember the buzz Nas had surrounding LIG? U had Nicki Minaj bragging about kissing him in her music video. All kinda shyt. Nas went Gold when most artists wasn’t even going Gold. U had artists with all kinda buzz not hitting Gold. Nas just gets all kinda extra scrutiny. shyt an artist like Nip was goin double wood before he passed even with Victory Lap and even post mortem it took him a MINUTE to get a plaque. nikkas need to chill wit these wack hot takes.

Nah pap is right. Nas is always respected by the real ones but there is definitely a sector of people that try to downplay his greatness though. Nas has done it his way his entire career and that's why he is still here 27 summers later.

The only reason he’s not mentioned at times is because he’s not as popular as those usually mentioned. But everyone knows.

Nas been going gold because people flat out love that guy. Nas didn’t do himself any favors over the years. It isn’t like he himself is complaining so kudos to him but if you were to look at anything in a time capsule post 03 his shyt doesn’t reflect what nikkax coast to coast was listening to when once upon a time you could say that. Daughters was ok but it wasn’t exactly received like Jesus Walks or Keep Your Head Up. Intention is no more important than Execution and those guys simply got more traction out of those type of records. Nas became an artist playing to his base before his time in my opinion. His singles became a task as if he just throwing shyt at the wall to see if it would stick :yeshrug:

Nas gotta be the most critiqued rapper ever...Yeah he has some duds on his resume, fair share of bad songs and whatever but he’s has a whole lot more great material and classics that a veryhigh percentage of rappers don’t have.

It’s like all the greats get overly critiqued but the wack/trash rappers don’t as much...

But like I said before. Nas was literally going with shyt that was the OPPOSITE of what people would think of for a single since Street’s Disciple. There was clear singles that people loved on that album. Anytime I played You Know My Style or Virgo people fukked with those heavy. shyt You Know My Style was on mixtapes. This is where Nas started experimenting with his singles. And ur forgetting people messed with both Bye Baby and Cherry Wine. shyt Cherry Wine was being played at weddings.

Ehh seems like a bit of confirmation bias. The world is bigger than my block or yours. The world is bigger than where I be at or you. Unless you’re some DJ that’s doing clubs coast to coast it’s tough to say what “the people” fukk with en masse. As the last 20 years has shown us the world is bigger than New York City. We can dispute whether songs like Cherry Wine & Daughters mattered but what’s irrefutable is...

This was a hit...a bonafied hit....a national hit...can we agree?

I wouldn’t bet my life You Know My Style was getting run in Kansas City. I wouldn’t bet my life Bridging The Gap was getting played in Cleveland

Can’t change the rules just because you like a nikka and this is coming from someone who thinks Nas is the greatest

Just watched "The Departed" for like the 3rd time last night...that "Thief's Theme" ringin off in the background will never not be hard, :wow:. I wonder if that was Dicaprio's call since he is a Nas stan or if Scorcese picked it. :banderas:

unlike most posters in this thread i will sing nas praise like no other

hes better than G rap and Rakim

hes the best MC from Queens. hes been the best MC alive since 1997.

his weaker albums still contain multiple classic records and push the boundaries of the genre

only the truest of the lost, the ignorant, the uninformed, the deprived would talk down on nasty nas the rebel to america lyrical professor.

Nas is in a rare league of musicians who have multiple classic albums, i say in double digits.

"dont wait till im dead to say i was the best"

NO DOUBT
