After Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel accused the NRA of "not standing up" for shooting victims, the group fired back on Twitter, saying: "You were the one that didn’t PROTECT these children and that is your job. You run the largest fully accredited sheriff's office in the United States, yet your office failed this community."

Tucker Carlson's response to the latest development:
“Almost immediately after the show [last night], CNN responded by claiming that Colton Haab is lying, even altering evidence,” Carlson said. “Tonight, CNN executives leaked unauthorized… and authorized release of what they claim are Colton’s personal emails. They’re trying to claim that he or his family altered evidence of his exchange with a CNN producer.”

The Fox News host said that this “surprised” him because CNN had “declared” that “anyone who questioned the integrity of Parkland survivors” is a “monster” and “guilty of the most severe kind of moral crime.”

“And yet CNN is doing the very same thing right now, questioning the integrity of a survivor because it suits them,” Carlson alleged. “So there’s some irony there.”

That being said, Carlson emphasized the important question of “What’s actually true?”

“This is journalism. We don’t know what’s actually true, but we are going to do our best to find out and we’re going to tell you if we do,” he concluded.

Trump’s CPAC speech reminds me of Molly Ivins’ classic line: “It probably sounded better in the original German.”

Andy Borowitz From Ivins’ NY Times obit: After Patrick J. Buchanan, as a conservative candidate for president, declared at the 1992 Republican National Convention that the United States was engaged in a cultural war, she said his speech “probably sounded better in the original German.”
