That's terrible for the player, what if you stuck in sh!tty situation with no way out?

You aren't stuck though. You can sign elsewhere, you just can't get as much money.

What happens when a team designates a franchise player and then uses the remaining cap space to sign other star(s)?

Then things would get interesting. What if you are a squad with 3 or even 4 young stars (see OKC 4 years ago)? There was nothing wrong with the system that allowed you to pay everybody what you and they agreed they were worth, unless you are an owner that is.

Let's these players do what they want.

He is the reason why Wade wasted his peak years with Michael Beasley:camby:
Remind me again what assets the heat could have added from 2008-10 that would have let them get/keep James and Miller and Bosh and Haslem that they didn't trade for or sign. Nobody said anything about it working like the tag in the NFL.

Similar idea to what I was wanting in that thread about what we'd change in the CBA. I would want them to be able to use it on any player though not just someone on their current team. Cause it would screw a player like Wiggins if Minny decided to save that franchise slot for Towns and so he's fukked and can't get a similar deal from other teams.

Seeing as how people call GS a "super team " altho their core is pretty much homegrown & OKC would have needed to decide on him or russ. Shyt wouldn't have worked:yeshrug:

Can't franchise every year

He basically saying these ******s have to much power :scust:
They only do that shyt in majority black sports. No way would they try a franchise tag in Baseball.

It's not an NFL type tag in theory. It's choosing one player who they have no restrictions on the contract they can offer that player and that his deal wouldn't count against the cap. Nothing about if they sign with another team the other team loses multiple draft picks to the old team. That's what makes the NFL tag horseshyt.

A draft day trade would be an exception since sometimes teams draft for other teams. In other words it should benefit guys who have only played for that team

It's not the sane interpretation as an NFL franchise tag where you're not allowed to test free agency without restrictions. Riley's just saying he wants to make sure one guy's salary isn't on the cap.

And in baseball it's called arbitration. The only difference is the player can have the option not to accept it.

Nobody thought KD would actually leave because it made more financial sense to stay in OKC. If you have a nice shoe contract you won't stay for money anyway.

no issue with that at all

should be with team that drafted you, that would be a key stipulation. when you have Lebron making 20 something and Miles Plumlee getting 12, this kinda makes sense :pachaha:

Exactly, imagine that happened to lebron with the first carnation of the cavs.
He'd still be ringless with moe williams as the second option
Im convinced yall cats dont read. He's suggesting you can pay one player whatever you want and it doesnt go against the cap. It wouldnt even stop super teams from forming because super stars like LeBron have shown they would play for less than max value.

They did it the right way, collected assets and traded them for KG and RA. Riley and Wade planned this when all 3 of them signed those identical deals 3 years before.
There's no right or wrong way to build a team. Don't let ESPN tell you how to think. Anyone who speed this in my opinion simply doesn't like the idea of free agency.
