:why: my broke uncle rides amtrak. rich people take a plane... my uncle took amtrak from up north down to florida. took his ass fukkin forever it looked like shyt

Nah. There are people commuting to high paying jobs in NYC and DC everyday on Amtrak. Most of them live in lower cost areas in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Jersey and commute to those cities even if its 90 mins each way.

Nah. He's spot on.

Nobody's taking Amtrak from NYC to DC, or from Philly to DC/NYC except people with disposable income.

It's like $40-$80 each way. Most times its closer to $80. So over $100 for round trip. I can just drive for all that. And nobody except rich people are gonna fly from one east coast city to another east coast city. So the "competing with flying" argument is wrong. We're all 1-4 hours away from each other. Why even bother with going through Airport security and all that.

Not true. If you have a job that causes you to frequent NY to DC route (I had one in college before I had much disposable income) it is much easier to jump on an axcela train. That traffic driving up I95 during the work week is brutal, and I'd much rather sit and read than have to drive 4 hours more than once in a week.

The gas and tolls from NY to DC and back makes this pretty much a wash economically also.

Nah....

It wasn't economical for me. My parents house is right outside of Philly, I went to college in DC and didn't have a car until my last year of college so I know what I'm talking about, all them times I took the trains home on the weekend. I took the Amtrak maybe once or twice when I felt I was balling (refund checks) but that shyt was like 60, 80 fukkin dollars. It's that exact reason I started taking the MARC train because it was only $11 and my peoples just picked me up from the last stop in Perryville. To fill up my car is 20 bucks. Tolls from DC to Philly is $12. That's $32. Why the FUKK would I pay $60-$80?

My friend I'm only speaking for NY, not Philly, which is at least 2 1/2 hours from my place in NY by car. I doubt they would discount tickets from Philly as opposed to NY, with NY and DC being much bigger business centers. I just think your location wasn't their target demo, so it may have been cheaper for you to drive.

I am only speaking for us who traveled from NY to DC ( i also went to school IN DC and came home to NY every weekend).

And obviously you drive a smaller car (my car in college was a sedan that took 80-100 to fill up @ 93 octane) and don't have to deal with NY to DC tolls which add on $40 one way (Baltimore Tunnel, Perryville, Delaware Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Delaware State,NJ Turnpike. Just the tolls alone is more than your entire trip.

I guess it's better for NY/Boston travelers than Philly or Newark travelers.

I really think Amtrak just knows their target demo is Wall Street bankers and K Street lobbyists and lawyers. They're willing to pay a premium to not to have to deal with traffic and driving. When you making $150K each year but living in a relatively low cost area in Maryland or New Jersey, you not sweating the money you pay Amtrak.

It's $85 from NY to DC on Amtrak direct with no stops. there is no way I can drive from NY to DC for $85 unless I had an electric car. Most of the people I would ride with were business travelers but again I don't think "premium." When I fly from NY to DC for anything work/school related I would think premium (4 times the price of amtrak most of the time).

We will just agree to disagree because of our varying personal experiences. We're all getting robbed for the services we pay for anyway, I've traveled all across europe by train and spent nearly nothing and had access to food, alcohol, much nicer trains etc. :noah:

Paul Ryan is the reason Romney lost the way he did. I haven't seen his name in damn near 2 years.

The only Republican who realistically has a shot at being taken seriously at this point is Rand Paul.

lol, guy only has a job because his name sounds like "Ron Paul"

Ron Paul, Paul Ryan, Ran Paul, Ayn Rand.

Why is it, if your name sounds like that, you're gonna be some crazy conservative

I wonder if Arn Anderson from old wrestling days believed in the flat tax
i think ron paul named his son after ayn rand :dead:

Fresno, CA.
The Rail Passenger Service Act of 1970, which established Amtrak, specifically states that, "The Corporation will not be an agency or establishment of the United States Government.
:heh:

:yeshrug:
Amtrak needs to be completely defunded and done away with if it cant survive on its own.

The only stress Donald Trump has is if the people around him are going to jail
