One of my former coworkers who lives in India, I became friends with. He was real transparent. He made 10-11K a year!!! I with the same role made around 120K...hire one American solely for communication and to not frustrate your client the everyone else in India.

Cisco is an American company. I managed firewalls. At one point majority were either based on India and Mexico...when shyt got hot, an American was reached 😂

Corporate America sucks in...this for profit for shareholders is killing the job market. Race to the fkn bottom

Some areas in cybersecurity are oversaturated (NOC analyst is jsut one example). However if you have any of the following you're guaranteed a job in cyberdecurity:
1) Have a clearance
2) Were in the military as some kind of cyber role (you likely already satisfy number 1 because of this)
3) An electrical engineer or computer engineer transitioning to cyber security..... I wont say why but yeah.

> If you have a TS clearance it's even more insane bc they will even ignore the fact that you dont have some certs and will tell you to just get the certs on the job ( Dont get me started on SCI clearance).

From what I've been seeing on social media, it seems like the field is oversaturated and there are huge layoffs and outsourcing. Is this still an optimal field to try to pivot too as a 31 year old with no experience? If not, what sector of Tech is untapped and needs employees, that also offers that big salary and remote capabilities.

Everyone negging... it is what it is :yeshrug:. I posted this in Higher Learning with a regular title and got no response. I appreciate the people who are honestly responding sincerely.
Untapped? Emerging tech (AI, VR/AR/XR, blockchain, digital twins, Iot, tech for manufacturing, tech for healthcare crypto). Tech sales, sales engineers (they do demos of products)

If you have your certs, I suspect that you can get into cybersecurity

It will never be oversaturated.. we working with a skeleton crew right now

It’s security… there can never be too many security guards. The requirements are changing though

Edit:

Also, negged
You're former military and got a clearance. That's diffrent :manny:.I always tell people like OP that they need to lock in and find a way to get that secret celarance. Whether its joining the reserves or the national guard.... do something.

The entire tech industry is oversaturated. You will be competing with

1. recent college graduates
2. current college graduates
3. experienced professionals currently looking to switch jobs
4. experienced professionals who are out of work
5. experienced foreign professionals
6. experienced professionals who are self-taught
7. experienced professionals who went to boot camps
8. People in the same shoes as OP right now

SO on top of having enough experience, you have to master marketing and sales. Marketing to promote yourself, and sales to sell yourself.
You also have to do a lot of networking
Cyber Security shortage is in the millions :what:
Banks
Hospitals
Schools/universities
Telecom companies
Power Plants
State/federal Government
Law enforcement
Military
Manufacturing
Tech companies
Sports teams
Music industry
Film studios
TV networks
Insurance agencies
Law firms
Doctors offices
Air Lines
Airports
Ports
Prisons/Jails

Global workforce growth has stalled
The global cybersecurity workforce has stalled at 5.5 million people, while the need for cybersecurity experts has increased. The workforce gap has grown 19% year-over-year.
Job demand has stabilized
Cybersecurity job demand has stabilized after the pandemic-fueled hiring spree. However, there are still many jobs going unfilled.
The need for cybersecurity is growing
The need for cybersecurity is growing due to the increased adoption of web-based services and the rise in scams.
The shortage is expected to continue
By 2025, there is expected to be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs. The global cybersecurity industry is in need of 4 million more professionals.
Some factors that are contributing to the shortage include: Budget cuts, Layoffs, Hiring freezes, The tech industry's belt-tightening, and Organizations and recruiters narrowing down candidate pools based on a small number of arbitrary qualifications.

Some recommendations for closing the gap include:
Mapping skills training to existing threats and emerging trends
Adopting skills-based hiring practices
Offering upskilling and continuous learning opportunities for the current workforce
Providing clearer career paths
Cultivating a supportive work environment
Attracting new talent to the industry
Collaborating with government agencies on national campaigns

And even with all that, it’s never enough

People have to think of IT as in it’s a lot of moving parts… you have to specialize in something

Cyber is just a subset of IT that has it’s own subset of subsets. Just pick a direction you like and go for it. Don’t need to know or read code to be in cyber. It helps, but it’s not needed not even to be in IT. IT in itself is it’s own language and every subset has it’s own language and terminology, so impossible to know and do everything.

Security will always be there because the tech is always growing
Brah you're right but what "ethnic vagina finder" said is also correct. He forgot to add that you're also competing with tech bros who thnk that their software engineering skills can get them a cushy low level programming cyber security job. "Learn Rust and get an instant job offer". Its the new thing.

Cybersecurity is being outsourced faster than most other technical disciplines. Probably 80% of our IT security team is in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. I never know when I'll hop on a Teams call where nobody speaks fukking English.
Especially Argentina. People focus on India and South East Asia but Argentina and Mexico are definitely up there.

I’m aware

I hang around these guys even in the civilian world. Very smart individuals out here but the jobs are always there for everyone.

You just might have to make sacrifices in the short term. One thing thats true about me is I never had an issue of going where the money goes.
