so housing yourself is a flex? since when did necessities become a flex? now if you living in a super luxury apartment or malibu mansion, that's a flex, but your shyttily built 4bd/3ba cookie cutter home aint a flex
We've reached the point of bragging about basic shyt is the norm.

Is says more about the person flexing than anything else.

OP probably got his credit together recently after years subpar credit scores and debt accumulation....and now wants to act brand new.

People don't even think about their legacy anymore, sadly.. Its me me me me, now now now now.. Especially black people.. Talk all this wealth gap bullshyt, but move in a manner where they're not even trying to fix the shyt.. Whether you rent or paying mortgage, invest out of your own pockets into the community in which you live..
And they wonder why our generational wealth is so low. SMH.

This is a real flex:

I have a life-long homey, born in India raised in Brooklyn since when he was a few months old. Both parents worked, and owned a home across the street of where I lived (my parents rented).

One of the most chill people I know. As teens everyone in our hood called him Triple HHH :hhh: short for Hip-Hop Hindu because he was always breaking new songs to us (via Clue and other DJ mixtapes). Nevermind the fact that he was a Christian lol.

During our 20s, we spent a lot of times going bar-hopping. Whenever we would hit up the ATM, my boy was always conservative in what he would take out. Mind you, we were in our mid-20s. One time I asked "Dawg, why you always take out a minimal amount?" he lived with his parents, worked a good full time job in NY Presbyterian and didn't have to pay his parents rent. I was basically asking him why he was so cheap.

His answer was "My dad has access to the account and checks it, he wants to make sure I don't be splurging on dumb-shyt" So I put 2 and 2 together and figured that he parents let him live rent-free provided he doesn't spend all his bread.

Anyway, one day at age 30, Triple HHH hits me up:

"Yo, I just copped a crib..."

I said :salute:"Congrats brotha! How much you put up for downpayment?"

He says "What you mean?" :gucci:

"What was your downpayment? How much you gotta pay for mortgage every month"?

He was like "Oh nah, I bought it straight cash"

:ohhh:

680,000 for his crib - all cash. That's a flex. He also lurks this forum and is the person who put me up on The Coli.

Couldn’t be me
It's "house blindness" that trips people up. People be like "Only $2200" for this $500k house?" :gladbron: Not realizing the loan company ain't add in the escrow costs yet and then there's the usual bills of a house that can turn that 2200 into 3k a month when all is said and done.:francis:

Another mistake people make is factoring in the assumption that their career will grow and make them high payments more palatable. COVID came out the cut tore people up with the layoffs and pay cuts.

I also knew several people who rented on purpose. They didnt want to deal with the maintenance and upkeep of a house. They'd rather rent and leave it to the landlord. Make it his/her problem
